Question for pro-gun rights DUers
I really don't want this to turn into a flame war. I just got a question. Someone once mentioned some titles on gun control and racism. I can't remember who. So if anyone knows some good sources, please let me know. If not, please keep kicked so hopefully someone can help.

4. Come on, somebody...
I can't remember who, but somebody had this info. Lay off the meth, quit polishing your nickel-plated Mini 14 barrel, and log on to DU and answer my question.

You think gun owners do drugs?

As for myself; I don't own guns, I don't like guns, but I am a liberal against gun control. It never made sense to me. Besides, who knows when you may need to protect yourself (or have someone you trust help protect you)?

ON EDIT: just wanted to add, I've seen a lot of folks here on DU who advocate responsible gun ownership. You're not alone!

7. I can't provide you with a link but
I've always thought of this as a rural vs. urban issue. Guns are fine in the country, but very big trouble in urban areas. At least that's my experience.

8. Yes, but I think the real trouble may not be what you're thinking of
The main trouble for the people who own this country is the prospect of an armed urban working-class (especially be they black or Latino) using guns against them instead of each other.

As far as gun crime is concerned, in many rural areas it is worse than some urban ones.

Like when the guy at the drive-thru screws up your order. I'll show him-- no extra mustard puttin-on bastard!

12. I'm an armed liberal
and that's ok with me.

But I live in TX and it's a requirement by law to own at least two guns. They come by and check occasionally to make sure you still have them.

14. Have read about these sorts of laws in US
"But I live in TX and it's a requirement by law to own at least two guns. They come by and check occasionally to make sure you still have them.

but have always found it mega bizarro world stuff - personally I favour strong gun control (less of an issue in Australia) but I can see the arguments in favour of citizens owning guns/keeping them at home as well, but what justification can there possibly be for legislating that someone HAS to have a gun??

16. I was TOTALLY kidding
thus the winkie face at the bottom of the post.

I do own two guns, and TX is a very heavily armed state, but there is no law requiring us to have guns.

Freepers and neocons don't mess with liberals too much here though, they know we're as armed as they are.

17. Moonbeam_Starlight is just kidding. Every now and then I hear of some
idiot on the city council in some one-horse town trying to pass a silly measure like that. I'm unsure if any have succeeded, but certainly none on a state-wide level. I think Moonbeam_Starlight just means lots of people in Texas are strapped.

18. Yeah
so strapped it really isn't something we think about here. I've met people who are so incredibly liberal they are off the political spectrum and THEY have guns.

Of course, it doesn't mean I am a violent person. I'm very non-violent, actually. As is my husband, a former soldier. I don't know why we own them, actually. (Because we can?) They are stored safely, completely locked up, unloaded.

I kinda waver on the gun control issue myself. I can see both sides. I could never be described as a "gun nut".

But a loony LEFT wing gun nut. I hate the NRA, though I sometimes wonder if they are a necessary evil.

20. Apparently there's atleast this place
http://www.kennesaw.ga.us/codeofordinances.aspx

It just seems like something so far out there that it'd never even be suggested, even by complete fruitcake loons. I can't help but wonder what their justification is.

23. So wait a second, marrying and impregnating your sister isn't cool in
Australia? What a strange country you live in-- with the kangaroos and prohibitions against inbreeding and whatnot. I don't think I'd fit in well there.
