Lets create 1000 Michael Moore's
Michael is super talented, but there isn't alot of magic to what he's done. You can do it too. A video camera, a computer for simple editing. Not the same quality, but you can make your own statement.

My hope is that F 9/11 will motivate others to take a camera and expose hypocrisy everywhere!

1. Ah, But There IS A Lot Of Magic To What He Does
Edited on Sun Jun-27-04 08:29 PM by cryingshame
It's called Art.

And Art is every Human's means of expressing their Greater Self. :)

No, one shouldn't freeze up like a deer in the headlights or get caught up in trying to be perfect the first few times around....

But let's not diminish Art and the power of being an Artist.

2. Sorry. F9/11 is a work of art. I'm not that talented. It took him a lot
of practice (and a good budget) to get that good, too.

4. Yes, It's Art (and Genius) but...
My point was that it is very effective and a smaller undertaking could be attempted by many for a tiny budget ala Roger and Me.

5. fwiw ...
the collection of his works, culminating with F911, has done just that ... so put me down as first on the list. in fact, he's inspired me not only to speak out more in *any* way that i can find, but also to join up and begin participating here :)

so thanks mike!

6. Let's create 1000 Michael Moores? That's a lotta hamburgers dude!
Seriously, that sounds more like trying to create a quasi-Stalinist police state, where everyone spies on each other. This is really bad... leave me outta 'dis one dude.

My hope is for everyone in America to see Michael Moore's movie, instead of constant surveillance of everybody and their neighbors.

7. I have an idea...
Let's make copies of F/911 and go to the mall with them and
just pass them out to everybody.Stuff them in people's mailboxes
on your street...pass them out at church...when a cop pulls you
over to give you a ticket, give him one, etc.
People like free stuff and if you think about it, people are
always looking for new movies to stuff in their DVD.

8. Are suggesting folks here break the law?
You sound very patriotic. Why don't you BUY a whole bunch of originals and give them as gifts, or invite dozens of people to your house for a special, home-brewed screening?

9. Micheal Moore wouldn't mind

"I don't agree with the copyright laws and I don't have a problem with people downloading the movie and sharing it with people... as long as they're not doing it to make a profit... off my labor, I would oppose that... I make these books, movies, and tv shows because I want things to change, so the more people that get to see them, the better... I think information and art and ideas should be shared."

10. OK, but here's some hints on how to avoid headaches and/or a night in jail
But the suggestion of handing a bootleg DVD to a police officer, without an official permission slip from Michael Moore, might cause temporary trouble for the giver. This depends on the police officer.

Don't forget that malls are private property, so the owners and management might take umbrage with someone giving away free copies of products sold in resident video stores.

18. I did not say that you suggested this.
I am curious about any links to Michael Moore's website that gives the public permission to bootleg his DVDs. Of the two links you posted, one doesn't work (the .avi clip), and the other is just somebody's blog site.

I want to see, in writing, Michael Moore giving explicit permission to copy his DVD version of F9/11 and distribute it for free.

20. Doesn't work
I use MacOSX 3.4 which is UNIX based. No .avi for me.

How about another link? I'd prefer to see a written statement of policy that is sanctioned by Miramax.

Thanks in advance.

13. Ok you're right, I got off onto a tangent
I certainly support the efforts of budding film artists to create our own documentaries. I just shot about 60 hours of film in Brasil (did lots of interviews too), so I agree that anyone can make the attempt.

After reading your post, I realise that my mind wandered to another place where I conjured up a worse-case scenario - a mini, sci-fi horror where everone was filming each other all the time - I haven't slept in many days due to a heavy academic schedule. :boring:

12. OK,OK....
Thank you for pointing out those things folks, I liked the
feedback on my idea and you have good points.
But what I was trying to say was that we need to get this documentary
out to as many people as possible.
Yes, making our own video would be good, but people like me are
too un-coordinated to do that; yes, we would need permission
from MM to make copies and distribute them for free;
yes, a good point about malls being private property...
A lot of Freepers aren't going to go see this movie, but if
it's available to them for free while they are standing in line in the checkout counter of the super market e.g., they may get the message.
I was just trying to think of ways to get this movie more
exposure.
Help us out here on ways to get people to see the movie.

Peace :-)

Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 12:01 AM by Swamp_Rat
If Michael Moore did in fact say (when I see it explicitly written on HIS website) we can burn our own DVD copies and give them away, then I'm willing to do just that. There are LOTS of people I know who NEED to see this film, including some of my own relatives that have family in Iraq.

Everyone must see F9/11.

Edit: typo
