Pug sister tired of "Utah mentality"
So I just got off the phone with my sister who has driven me absolutely beserko for years with Mormon this and that, how to raise my kids, Bush love, and all the rest. I literally haven't talked to her in over a year because I just couldn't take it. But there's a family wedding coming up, so... had to call. I had carefully steered clear of all talk of politics and then she says...

She wants to move to Oregon because she's tired of the "Utah mentality"!!!!! :wow:

She mentioned their backwards attitude towards women and that she's just sick of it. I got the sense there was more. Then my daughter came in and I ended up putting her on the phone and didn't get back to hear anymore.

But that she even recognizes a "Utah mentality"! Holy shit people, that is HUGE!!!

I'm going to let her stew and call her back in a month or so. Wow. I'm sort of reeling. If Bush and the Pugs are losing people like my sister, they are ALL DONE!

1. I think Movement Conservatism may have peaked
Edited on Sun Jun-27-04 11:53 PM by DrBB
Stuff like this--it's anecdotal, but to my ear it indicates a trend shift. The whole Movement Conservatism thing or whatever you want to call it has peaked. Like all such movements it takes its cachet from the perception, on the part of its practitioners, that they are part of a counter-movement--this idea that they are in opposition to The Librul Establishment That Controls Everything, as Rush keeps tellling 'em. But that's a little hard to carry off when you've got the Reichpublicans controlling all three branches of government. When it gets locked in as Official Policy it starts to lose its counter-cultural cachet, and people really start to get a sense of what that's going to be like to live with. They start to smell the rank odor of what it actually is: authoritarianism, if not outright fascism. And guess what? Nobody actually likes that shit very much. And suddenly it's just not so much fun any more.
