16. Consumerism is Why

For years, America's primary source of information has been televised corporate media outlets, and the whole purpose of those media outlets has been to make us buy things. That's all. Just watch the morning TV shows...all fluffy movie reviews and tips on summer makeup. Nothing that's actually real or thought-provoking, just the same old platitudes in shiny plastic packages.

They pass off their big glossy commercials as news by throwing in a few local crime stories, or paying about fifteen seconds worth of attention to scandals caused by the corruption of leaders like * before brushing it off, flashing their big bleached grins at us and switching to a twenty-minute health-report that peddles the latest side-effect-heavy-cure-all from the pharmaceutical demons.

So then along comes Michael Moore with something real and biting, something that makes us cringe in disgust and discomfort (but makes us laugh too), and oh my God, we've been so brainwashed by these people that we just can't deal with the strain, so what do we do? We deny it, of course. It's only natural.
