NBC(in spite of our efforts) "...Farenheit 9-11 was tops at the boxoffice"
This morning on the Today Show after the opening teaser on the Iraqi handover and the possible capture (his "amputated leg" at least?) capture of al-Zarqawi Campbell Brown had to announce that ~"Michael Moore's controversial documentary that SLAMS the Bush administration set records at the box office and was the top movie of the weekend"

She then gave a look to Matt Lauer like "Gee sorry Matt you really tried to put this one down so this must be a real slap in the face" kinda look on her face.

:bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce:

I AM curious as to whether Moore included two of my favorite parts of the media coverage of the war:

Did it have the Marine saying"I guess it's not so easy to take over a whole country"?

Did he show NBC's Anne Curry literally cheerleading on the deck of the USS Abrham Lincoln?

1. at first I wondered Why Matt Lauer was so hard on Michael Moore
Then I saw Catie Kouric saying "Navy Seals are cool" or something stupid like that and I knew why.

4. No, it's "By the way, I think Navy SEALS ROCK!" or something like that.
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 07:42 AM by Mayberry Machiavelli
But "ROCK!" was the term. MM was gracious enough not to mention this scene when Katie was trying to grill him recently and he was calling the media including her to task for not doing their job.

2. They had that marine, with the sardonic knowing smile, saying that.
Really powerful stuff.

I don't think the cheerleading thing was there. Would've been sweet though, in a sickening kind of way...

That was actually when the sand storms hit if I am not mistaken.

Good I am glad that made the cut.

5. Did Matt Lauer say 'the Left Coast'?
He was announcing Roker, sounded like he said the left coast instead of the west coast.

16. Left Coast
I heard Left Coast too and I expected Roker to be on the East Coast...
When I looked up he was in California.

21. The west coast IS the "left" coast and it doesn't have anything to
do with politics. It is the "left" side of country.

32. Depends on where you are looking from
The meaning of Left Coast is totally political. If you are in North Dakota the West coast is the right coast.

6. It struck me as odd. . .
to see the normally chipper Campbell Brown looking as though she had swallowed something most foul when she spoke of the film. It was as though she couldn't mask her distain for F911's record breaking success.

oh well.

25. Good I'm glad it wasn't only my take on it
Thanks. I'm reminded of the local NBC affiliate's morning show where the woman anchor is a BIG TIME RW supporter (fundraisers etc.) and she actually mentioned something she heard on Fox News a year or so ago (was surely chastised for referencing a competitor). I fired off an e-mail to her about the wording of a "pro war" Freep sponsored "Rally for the troops" -they had mentioned an anti-war protest and then said "If you SUPPORT the troops...." and mentioned the Freep fest- she replied that it was just semantics.

Anyway she never has to read anything negative or anti-Bush and she chitchats with the resident stockbroker guy about how great things are.

7. Can anyone recall Matt Lauer's appearance in F-911
He was in it, but I can't recall in what context. Maybe that was why Matt was such an ass when interviewing Moore before the movie's release.

I think the marine saying "I guess it's not so easy..." was in the movie, but I did not notice Anne Curry.

Jeez, I would not make a very good eye-witness to a crime. I think I'm going to see it again this week with my son and pay closer attention.

10. Definitely need to see this movie at least twice.
Even though there was a lot of information with which I was already familiar, the new (to me) material was so mind blowing, that I can't remember all the details. Gotta see it again.

14. The kick-ass-funny interview with the emergency parachute maker
The one where, despite the company rep claiming how fast and easy it was, the girl struggled in vain to put it on. Hysterical lameness.

and then the guy pats her and says"don't worry it'll be ok"

31. Matt was shown
interviewing the disaster entrepreneur who'd come up with escape shoots for people in sky-scrapers. Supposedly they werw easy to strap on and they work at 10 floors and above. Ha, ha. The demonstration of the invention by the guy and his female whatever was a disaster itself and the segment was truly laughable!

"Mission Accomplished, yeah right" or something like that while they hauled some mangled soldier off to surgery. I missed that when it was on TV and never got to see the clip.

Perhaps F/911 transformed him because he usually is a dick.

26. Yeah, I've seen him before and had the same impression
That's why I was surprised at his relatively balanced report on F911 this morning. Could it be that the mainstream media realizes that they had better start doing their jobs?

Now that the tide of public opinion is turning against Bush's Iraq war, they must be worried that they will be seen as the cheerleaders they were.

23. Moore probably couldn't get permission to use
the copyrighted clip. More than likely, Poppy put the pressure on ABC or whoever owns it not to let Mike have it. So it may not be in the DVD either. If he puts it in without permission, the owner could sue, and I'm sure he doesn't want ANYTHING to hold up distribution.

13. he missed a classic cheerleading shot
I so wish he'd had CNN's Kyra Phillips standing on the USS Abraham Lincoln, screeching for a pilot who's in his takeoff roll to "Wave to the camera!"

War cheerleading at its worst.

28. Perky Fascism
How come you never see political signs outside the NBC Today show fishbowl? They must ban them somehow but I would love to take a group with two sided signs and right when they go to the outdoor shot we all flip them over and bingo! Signs that said things like "Hey Katie, I'm 30 TODAY" and "Hello Backwater Town" would suddenly say "Support the Troops - Impeach!" and "Osama been Forgotten?!"

That would put the wrinkle in Matt Lauer's brow. What got me more after seeing the film was remembering Lauer asking Moore if interviewing soldiers was some kind of trick on them. Implying that getting them to exercise their First Amendment right was some kind of dirty trick.

:hi:

A "trick" ? That is pretty demeaning to the soldiers.

Hanna Storm's interviewed on CBS included her asking him if he allowed the viewers to make up their own mind........are we unable to do that regardless of what someone's opinion is?
