Airline captain friend of mine "sees the light."
He just called and told me that he and his wife will be voting the Democratic ticket in November. He went on and on about what a big mistake it was voting for Bu$h in 2000. "I should have listened to you," he said. They haven't seen F-9/11 yet, either.

He also told me about the right-wing first officer flying with him this week. The F/O has a son in the USMC who has been in Iraq for two weeks. The F/O hates Bu$h and his USMC son hates Bu$h. The F/O can't quite vote for Kerry, but he swears he will never vote for another Bu$h.

BTW: My union, the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) has endorsed Kerry (FWIW).

3. "I should have listened to you."
That's what more than a few people have told me, regarding the Little Turd from Crawford.

I know you bus drivers don't like squids, but this IS a nice painting...

7. That's what I flew in Vietnam! Lockheed P-2V Neptune.
Actually I flew the SP-2E version rigged for electronic counter warfare over the Ho Chi Mihn Trail.

10. I remember. You used to post a great photo of your ship in your sig line.
The pic of you and the bird, though, really shows what a huge aircraft that is. Or else, you're shorter than I am, which is not very likely, going by the percentages...

Symbolically next to Gen. Walker's window.

4. That is good news!
If I were Republican I would be angry at him anyways. His admin isn't really Republican. They used the party to get into office. This country's been kidnapped by this gang who visualizes ongoing wars, no social programs (Social Security, Medicare), and the tax burden on the backs of the working class. All the money will be for military build-up. This will keep them and their cronies in the money. They are all amoral.

5. Why are airline pilots so conservative? Ex Military? Even some who
are too young for Vietnam and never served in the Military are very conservative. Would think that anyone who likes to fly would love freedom and hate anyone who would restrict it?

Sorry for dumb sounding question, but I've been arguing with a family member who's an Eagle Pilot and he and his friends are so conservative it drives me crazy. He won't hear a bad word about Bush and loves the Fundies. Yet he is nuts about flying and when he isn't flying he's out on a field with model air planes. So intelligent but I can't get him to discuss what Bush had done. His friends support him and they all e-mail pro-Bush around. This guy is even working for the Pilots Union trying to make change but doesn't understand that the Corporate Whores are ruining his life with the airlines.

6. My son talked to an ex-reservist this weekend.
He got out because of Bush and he said the military hates Bush. They do not say so when polled or interviewed but he said the hatred is almost universal in the military.

11. Airline Capt. I know was a classmate of Bush's in Texas
I just assumed he was a Republican, so I tiptoed around the politics issue, and finally asked him straight-out if he was going to vote for his old classmate, W. His answer: "What? Me vote for that moron?"

Then I said: "Well, you know him. Do you think Bush is evil or stupid?"

He said with a laugh: "Oh, stupid. Definitely stupid."

13. Amazing! I have a friend in CA
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 09:02 AM by Ilsa
whose husband is a pilot with a major carrier. Ex-military, a very scientific guy (there's some cognitive dissonance!), loves studying physics and stuff about space and NASA, etc, but has always voted Republican, and voted for Shrub in 2000. I suspect he'll do the same as will his wife my friend. She is paranoid about terrorism.

I think we need to somehow get the word out that not voting for Bush is okay, but they need to send a clear message by voting for Kerry, and call it a "protest vote".

Is ALPA the union (the only union?) for all the major carriers?

On Edit: Thanks for the good news.

14. ???
Does your union support kerry because of his fight to have 9/11 investigated so that the pilots who have been deemed so inept that they could have their planes taken from them by guys with box-cutters will finally have their good names cleared?

Or is it for another reason.
