Please take a moment to thank Jack Mathews, a respected NY Daily News columnist who exposes Bill O'Reilly for the coward that he is.

snip..

In a column last week on "Fahrenheit 9/11," I paired political lefty Michael Moore with media righty Bill O'Reilly as "ideological thugs who play loose with the facts while fostering hatred in an increasingly polarized country."

I thought I was insulting Moore, but it was O'Reilly who got mad. He wanted me to appear on his radio show and defend myself. When I didn't, he told his listeners, "I guess old Jack couldn't reach the phone while hiding under his desk."

Here's what I'm willing to do, right here, in my medium of newsprint. I'll serve up some O'Reilly untruths, courtesy of the media watchdog group Media Matters for America (www.mediamatters.org), and you disprove them - in your column, or on your radio or TV show, wherever the truth wants out.

By the way, Bill, the Media Matters people tell me they've offered to go on your show to address these whoppers and others, but that so far, you've been hiding under your desk.

end snip.

I have written several times to O'Lielly asking to take up David Brock's challenge. Especially since anyone who does not appear on his show is branded a coward by him. But Brock is yet to appear on his show while gossip-mongers like Richard Peo who writes a one-sided article on George Soros for Newsmax gets plenty of air-time on 'The Factor'.

1. mediamatters.org seems about as "fair and balanced" as O'Reilly
It's the first time I've gone to that website and expected more.

3. Media Matters is a great site!
Sure, it leans to the left, and they make no bones about that, but the interesting thing here is it's run by David Brock, who was part of the anti-Clinton smear machine back in the 90's. He came to his senses, and came out with a book about his experiences in the conservative media.

Now he's working overtime to attack them, as sort of an apology to the left.

After seeing the vast, well-researched content there, all I have to say is 'apology accepted'.

4. Media Matters is not 'Fair & Balanced'. They don't claim to be.
I don't believe Media Matters pretends to be a 'Fair & Balanced' medium. In light of the right-wing's claim of liberal media bias, their focus is on Conservative misinformation in the media. Here's what they claim to be about:

Media Monitoring: Comprehensively monitor a cross section of print, broadcast, cable, radio, and Internet media outlets to identify conservative misinformation.

Media Analysis: Analyze the monitoring data, including broader trends in media coverage of politics and public policy, and post reports detailing the ways in which conservative misinformation is disseminated through media. Reports will include:

Rapid-response items documenting conservative misinformation in each news cycle, posted to the website in real time.
Longer research and analytic reports, appearing several times per week.
Occasional reports of a broader scope, delving deeper than daily and weekly material.

6. O'Lielly won't debate anyone other than on his show.
It's his own little soapbox. If he were to go anywhere else he wouldn't be able to yell "SHUT UP!!" or turn off anyone's microphone. The little weasel.
