General Rove's plan to bury F9/11's success...Was successful!!!
Hardly a word about it on CNN this morning. There was a "Pop" news segment where they basically made fun of it for about ten seconds...then Soledad O'Brien moved on to the "important pop news stories"...Britney and Celebrity Poker!!! In the "headlines" the take of the movie was mentioned...barely.

Whenever Anything negative came up about the FULL AND TOTAL TAKEOVER AND SOVEREIGNTY OF IRAQ, Bill Hemmer was quick to crush the naysayers who would dare to waste our "beautiful minds".

Jack Caffety's question of the day was on the Iraq "handover". Overwhemingly negative (7 out of 8 letters). Hemmer earned his check by getting Cafferty to admit there was more than one positive email received. Same GOP issued text over and over? We'll never know.

Oh, and MTV took three young Republicans to a showing then showed us their reactions in a coffee house. Surprise! By their choice of words, I guarantee you that they were party activists. Quoting what the the White House would say word for word.

MTV said that they also took three "Independents" and would air that segment another time. Uh-huh.

4. I do think it will take a while, I think you're right.
The current spin has been 'preaching to the choir.' Here's a documentary that was endangered to some degree from the time Moore announced he was making it -- obviously at least an anti-Bush* movie, if not pretty partisan (haven't seen it yet, we'd planned other things for the weekend and will have to wait) -- and it's so shocking that Democrats and other progressives and liberals are the primary audience! Gasp! I'm so shocked. Duh -- who the hell did they think was going to buy all the tickets the opening weekend? Give it a couple of weeks, see how it plays with the fence-sitters. If it gets 'fad status' it may well be that there will be many fence-sitters and uncertains who will feel compelled to go see it or be 'left behind' their social groups.

I'll say it again, just because it annoys me so much that it's such obvious spin -- who the hell did they think was going to pack the theaters the opening weekend? Oh, maybe ... the people who've been waiting in tense anticipation for the movie for six months now? Ya' think?

3. I hope they recognize that their time is running short to help
give Bush a graceful exit. If they think for a moment that they can do more, they are in for a big disappointment come November. They would be wiser to concentrate of their precious Senate and House seats.

6. What does the White House do except call it "outrageous lies"
without any justification whatsoever? That makes for a pretty short review.

The MTV RepubScouts probably went on for a while about it being partisan politics, blah blah blah. But offering no rebuttal to the charges in the film will not hold up for long.

7. I don't think this "success" will last very long
Iraq got officially handed over today. Ho-hum.

They can't hand back Iraq tomorrow, and the next day - and this upcoming three-day weekend.

Meanwhile, F911 will keep burning.

9. timing

Anybody else think that the turnover in Iraq was moved up to counter the press about F9/11 first-weekend-box office numbers? Rove has done a masterful job of 'timing' WH moves in the past -- I certainly wouldn't put this past him.

10. NBC, ABC, and CBS
all had segments on this morning, all were at least 5 minutes long. Each segement had negative things to say but also positive things.

11. Hopefully a grassroots backlash
against the media will ensue. If enough independents/fence-sitters/apolitical types SEE this movie, and are powerfully affected by it, and subsequently see the mainstream media GLOSS OVER and IGNORE the film's popularity (as well as its content)... the media's complicity in the cover up will feel more "personal".

F911 is something to be *experienced*, and is quite revelatory to many people. If there is a grassroots-level outrage about this movie, and the media resumes full court Laci peterson coverage, thus "invalidating" or downplaying the powerful experience of the film, I think the anger will be palpable.

13. To be fair...
The media did help to hype F911, even their hit pieces against Moore were a plus, IMO. CNN had a long segment on Moore this weekend and it was pretty even-handed (though the anti-Moore guy was from NEWSMAX - LOL)

14. excuse me
but NO movie was going to lead the news cycle.

Other things happen in the world, and expecting nonstop coverage of a movie is unreasonable.
