Peace Activists Plan to Counter Recruiting by Military in Palm Beach Schoo
Recruiters pitching military service to high school students tout job training, college scholarships, foreign travel and lifelong friendships.

A Palm Beach County peace group offers a different view: Enlisting in the armed forces isn't like signing with a job placement agency. War can kill you.

That's why peace activists say students who hear from recruiters in school should also expect to hear from them.

"We want to be there to balance that perspective," said Javier del Sol, an activist and professional storyteller with a gray ponytail and a bandana knotted around his head. "The military has money and personnel. But a few people can make a difference."

1. I hope that the peace groups will tell the students
that they can get at least part of their college education without having to go into the military.

Most community college students have part time jobs that pay for their tuition and books. But many community colleges also have scholarships for truly needy students.

Community colleges are very flexible. Students can get the creditials they need for many different careers or they can study for two years and then transfer to a 4-year college. Right off the top of my head, I can think of two people with Ph.D.s who began their education at community colleges. And I know several instructors and department heads at community colleges who began their own education at community colleges.

3. Still, it would be great if every high school Senior was given a
"voucher" to the college of his or her choice, to be paid out of the DoD budget. :D

Wonder that would do to the enlistment numbers??

Could do wonders for the average IQ of the nation, though.

"At North Miami Beach's Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School, for example, juniors who don't take the PSAT are required to take the test."

Now that is wrong...It seems the school is implying that those students who don't take the PSAT are idiots and therefore HAVE to take the military ASVAB. If I was in that position, I would have the ASVAB done in minutes...Answer C to everything...lol

4. Ramping Up for the Draft
Forcing students to take the military aptitude tests is an ominous sign.
It won't be long now.
