Pfc. Matt Maupin executed in Iraq (sources)
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 02:11 PM by VolcanoJen
Although CNN just reported that Matt Maupin is still missing and that no word from him has been heard since, word out of Iraq suggests that he's been executed.

As many of you know, I've been following this soldier's story since he was captured along with another soldier who was killed, and Thomas Hamill, the contractor who escaped. I'm just sick, and angry, and sad... there is no point to holding on to hope during this war.

Who wants to bet this execution had something to do with the fake sovereignty ceremony today?

Sources: Missing Soldier May Be Shot - Ohio News Network

There are unconfirmed reports that an Ohio hostage in Iraq has been shot.

Private Keith Matt Maupin was captured in April when gunmen armed with rocket propelled grenades attacked his convoy.

Two sources, a Cincinnati TV station and an Arabic Web site, both cites sources close to the Maupin family as saying that the Al Jazeera TV network has a videotape of Maupin being shot.

Captured US Soldier Maupin Executed - Jihad Unspun

Today at 0945hrs Pfc. Matt Maupin, 20, of Batavia, Ohio, held in Iraq was executed. Maupin was a member of the 724th Transportation company, was captured April 9. His convoy was attacked by Iraqi resistance fighters using rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons.

According to military representatives close to the Maupin family, Al Jazeera has a videotape of Maupin being shot which they have not yet aired due to the "festivities" in Iraq.

More details to come as they are available.

1. Jen?
Did Al Jazeera say when he was shot?

I buy that the Misadmin would withhold the news until the feel-goods were over, but would Al Jazeera?

Thanks.

6. No word on when he was shot.
I always found it odd that someone has been holding this soldier since early April, and yet no video, no word has emerged since.

It just never made any damned sense.

My guess is he was executed in April... but we'll likely never really know what happened to Pfc. Maupin.

2. If we're going to get out ...
we have to do something ....like hand over sovereignty.

To blame this murder on the timing of ceremony is forgetting that the trigger man had a choice and thought it was a good time to kill this soldier. May God have mercy on both their souls.

4. You missed the point...
He may have been killed long ago, it's the release of the video that's being delayed.

5. Actions often result in reactions.
We certainly shouldn't have expected the violence to end when "sovereignty" was handed over.

Blood on the murderers' hands, blood on the Administration's hands. They are the ones who chose to send Matt Maupin to Iraq.

My only hope is that his family can find some comfort. It is sad that it's becoming impossible to hold out any kind of hope in the face of this disgusting war, which continues to bring its nightly/daily horror show to my television screen and computer desktop.

10. You once asked what it was like to have Vietnam in our homes.
Remember?

You were too young to remember my pain and tears every evening during the newscast.

Well now you know -- it's ugly, isn't it?

Never give up our fight, dear Jen, never.

And thank you for telling me about DU; these are terrific people to have on our side.

3. My heart has just broken for the thousandth time.
When all of the news was centered on Nick Berg I wondered and worried about this soldier who seemed to get no press. What have we wrought upon these troops?

7. Barb, it drove me nuts that the media forgot about Matt Maupin.
They seem to be forgetting about him today, too... where are the cracker-jack CNN reporters hunting down the truth about his alleged execution?

Why doesn't anybody GIVE A DAMN??!!??

I'm angry today. More so than usual.

8. Wonder what the change in MO means. If anything. Still, my heart
goes out to his family and friends. :(

9. Very sad news.
Just talking with a friend before I came online, what happened to the other soldier?

Now we know. Small mercy, they did not behead him.

11. Isn't that the strangest thing?
I thought the same thing... "Well, thank God they didn't behead him."

How did we get to this point????

12. Anyone watching these GHOULS outside Maupin's home on CNN?
I'm seriously going to lose it.

There are many, many enormous news trucks parked right outside the Maupin Family home in a suburb of Cincinnati.

Do these fucking media ghouls have no shame???
