Iraq "Handover" is dimbulbs* Mission Accomplished Part Two?? |
|
I believe the all day fanfare and 24/7 coverage of the bushco* "success" in Iraq is bad news for chimp*. The expectations are incredibly high. At least as far as the news readers at CNN and MSRNC have shown. They are all smiles and laughs and yucking it up like something has REALLY changed. I believe the whole "sovereignty in Iraq" brought by bush* will end up being much worse than "Mission Accomplished" turned out for him.

1. Yes. People are expecting troops to be coming home and |
|
"stop loss" ended etc., and they are in for a rude surprise as near as I can tell.

2. I can't believe anyone thinks we've handed anything over. |
|
What's wrong with people? We're calling up more people and sending them over there. People keep talking about a draft. We keep building bases (14 at last count?)
We're running out of oil, and there's a bunch of it in Iraq. It's been kept in a keg in the fridge by the Brits and US for most of the last century. The party's winding down, and we're breaking out the last keg.
Resource Wars don't end by June 30. This whole war has been about profit and sustaining an unsustainable way of life. Oil is finite, but we are spoiled and addicted. I don't even think there's enough time to switch to renewables without extreme pain to ourselves, and definitely for the rest of the world.
Even if Kerry is elected, there is no way we're leaving Iraq. Our crash and the resultant power vacuum would be breathtaking. I'm afraid we missed the easy exit 50 years ago or so.
Whoever was driving should have asked for directions.

7. about those 14 bases... |
|
If the American people were made aware of this issue alone in the main stream press, I believe it would make a huge difference in peoples' perceptions of the Iraq "handover". That is why they don't touch it or dwell on the "largest embassy in the world" either.

3. They are attempting to reset the military death counter to zero |
|
Cause it is going to cross 1000 soon, this way they can say things like... Only 10 soldiers have died since the handover, even though nothing has really changed.
Also, it ~shudder~ shows the other NATO leaders in Turkey Bush's bold leadership.
Also it keeps the who thing free of multiple beheading videos that would have been released if they turned over control on Wednesday.
Also if give the true believers a reason to not go see F911, cause all thats over now yah know.

4. Where are the ticker tape parades? |
|
I mean if this is Victory over Iraq Day, shouldn't there be a little bit more to it?
Write your local newspapers and ask why if we are done in Iraq, why are they still killing our soldiers?

The only difference is that Bush can now lay the blame on the Iraqis instead of having it fall on him. Anybody who thinks anything has changed need a whack with the clue stick.

6. Wondering the same thing. Bush will not use clips of the "handover" for.. |
|
his political campaign. He learned from the other fiasco, so even if this blows up in his face he will not have advertised it like he did the Mission Accomplised thing.

8. Yes!! "We've Turned Another Corner!" |
|
I enjoyed hearing a Congressman today comment, "How many corners have we already turned? How many corners do we still have to go? How many corners are there, exactly?"
Does anyone know who said it? He was frustrated, blase, and his comment made more sense to me today than anything else has.

10. We haven't handed over jack schitt! |
|
How exactly do you hand over sovereignty anyway? And wasn't Iraq a sovereign nation before the war in the first place? Are we still occupying the place? Hell yes we are!
Nothing has changed. People will figure that out (maybe) when their sons and daughters continue to go over there to die.
