Bootlegs of F911. Have you seen any? I have.. |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 03:20 PM by Kahuna
Yesterday an aquaintance showed me their bootleg copy of F911. It was purchased in the 'hood,' in Newark, NJ. I disapprove of bootlegs and have never purchased or owned one. However, F911 is not playing in any theaters in Newark. So, I'm at least glad that there is an interest in the product.

Listed as pot.911 by THEAWFULTRUTH.
No preview so Im guessing it's a camera shot. Hopefully someone will boot the DVD off the projector soon.

We already paid to see it, but had to drive an hour and a half to do so. Until it comes to my town (when I will pay to see it again), I'll make do with a shakey camcorder version.

5. Ah... My "acquaintence" bought three copies to distribute. He had |
|
already seen the movie in the theater. But he bought some to distribute to people who can't get to the theater.

3. Any bootlegs should be sent straight to the troops in Iraq and let them |
|
watch it. I have a feeling the DOD won't be showing to the troops.

But sending this movie to the troops in Iraq? I can't imagine the morale is all that great over there right now. I'm afraid watching this movie while in Iraq would make it that much harder on our troops. Then again, free will is a beautiful thing. If it's there and they want to see it, then so be it.

While I believe that Michael Moore and everyone responsible for F9/11 should get their money (actually, most already have), I also think that the message is more important than copyright laws or corporate profits. There are a number of people who need to see this movie who won't because they don't want to give anythign to Moore. This way, they get to feel like they are getting one over on him, while getting the message at the same time. So, while I won't do anything to help pirate F9/11, I'm not convinced that it's a bad thing.

...and, though you have a good idea for those who I know well enough to visit with, I believe there are a number of people who would not see the movie at all if it weren't for the bootlegs. I'm not trying to promote piracy, just feeling like this needn't be enforced in a draconian manner.

I don't have any, and I'd buy Roger & Me, Bowling for Columbine and F911 in a box set

12. Bootlegs are a way of life in Newark. Are you kiddin' me? |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 03:19 PM by Kahuna
The corner stores sell bootlegs. The movie could be playing down the street and people would buy bootlegs.

Hey, if you want to buy a bootleg, be my guest. Mike himself encourages downloading and sharing his films. My comment was directed at your claim that the movie isn't playing in Newark when in fact it is playing in Elizabeth... just in case anyone else needed to know where it was playing nearby.

18. Is Elizabeth, "Newark???" No, it is not. So, don't be telling people.. |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 03:31 PM by Kahuna
from Newark to go to Elizabeth if that's not what they want to do. I think Newarkers are intelligent enough to find out where a movie is playing "if" they want to go to a theater to see it. It's hard to imagine how Newarkers have managed to get along all these years without input from you.

To clarify:
I don't care if anyone buys a bootleg copy. I don't care if anyone downloads it off the internet. Mike himself encourages such behavior. Next time someone asks me where they can see the movie, I'll say, "Go to hell, Kahuna says nobody cares about my input."

|
Not me. Why are you wasting your time crowing about Elizabeth when there is nobody in this conversation who cares? Duh. Do you expect me to be a town cryer and gallop through the streets of Newark saying, "F911 playing in Elizabeth?" Other than that, I don't know why you're beating a dead horse.

I've never heard of a bootleg documentary before. Moore should be flattered...and sad that people are going to great lengths just to hear the truth.
If the decision was mine to make, I would give a F911 video to anyone who can prove they live in a city that doesn't carry the movie. They would also have to promise to register to vote.

Missed it in the theaters (don't ask), didn't want to wait for the video release, so my roommate got me a download to hold me over until I could buy the DVD.

25. This is one of those downsides of capitalism |
|
Many of those who badly need the information won't be able to afford it.
I appreciated moveon.org's attempts to get their video out to anyone who needed it.
One of our challenges....... finding creative ways to circumvent the "isms" in order to make our system workable.
