F911: Remember how the media lied about protest attendance... |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 06:54 PM by Junkdrawer
In the coming weeks, the numbers on F-911 (already at about 3,000,000) will make the "only a tiny fringe believes those things about Bush" lie harder and harder to hide.
That could well be the most powerful thing about the movie: It's proof that the effort to Manufacture Consent is failing. And when that fails, stealing elections no longer yields international legitimacy.

10. Nothing left to say, I guess |

He couldn't claim now, as he was claiming earlier, that nobody would go to see the movie anyway.
I just finished teaching his book (for the 3rd time) in my class, and I won't be teaching that class anymore. I can't read the book without thinking about him and his crap and praising AWOL.
Anybody know of any other good anti-censorship novels?

12. Welcome tu DU, Jerseygirltoo! |

Gee Ray, are we still allowed to talk about temperatures? Did you stop to think about what Mr. Fahrenheit would say about your use of his concept to make a buck?
I think dear old Mr. Bradbury just wanted to get out of the house for a bit.
However, It is odd, given Fahrenheit 451's theme that he would be a supporter of the current regime. Perception is indeed everything.

4. That's right. This time numbers have dollar signs - and the one thing... |
|
America counts accurately is money. Not votes, not protest attendance, but money.

3. speaking of protests... |
|
I was ecstatic to learn via the film that there was an egg pelting during the parade to swear * in! We weren't allowed to see (via media) HOW MANY people actually got out of hand during that time.
The signs and near rioting was SUPER!!

5. 3 Million people in a country of 300,000,000 is just a "Focus Group". |
|
That's their line and I bet that they'll stick to it.

7. Well, first of all the R rating means we can't use the 300 million... |
|
figure.
Secondly, 3 million was one weekend.
Next, how many have the spare bucks and time to take in a movie?
And, as I said before, imagine what the talking heads would be saying if their side got these kind of numbers for an Anti-Kerry or Pro-Bush movie?

8. Accurate statistical examination isn't a specialty of Foxbush. |
|
But you right too that they'd look at F-911 in a totally different light if Moore was a neo-Facist and Clinton was President.

9. Speaking of R ratings, did you see this? |
|
Because "Fahrenheit 9/11" has been rated R, the MPAA says the film's distributor, Lion's Gate, can't use the quote by Chicago Sun-Times columnist Richard Roeper that "Everyone should see this film." The Weinsteins, Lion's Gate and Roeper are protesting. Roeper, in his column today, says "For the record: Whether you're a Bush-backer, an anti-Bushite or an undecided, you should see 'Fahrenheit 9/11' and decide for yourself whether it's an important and valuable critique of the president, or an irresponsible piece of propaganda. Because of some raw language and mostly because of footage that brings home the horrors of war, this movie should not be viewed by young children. Everyone else should see it." 11. Ummm, just wanted to point something out... |
|
Most polls put Bush's #s under 50% before F911 came out. So they know damn well he's not that popular.
