Does "news" flow from the Internet ? |
|
...to radio, to television, to newspapers? Is that the direction that "news" follows in todays world? It seems to me that I see just about all news on the Internet before I see it on television or hear it on radio. What does this portend for the future of news? Does the Internet have the capacity to "frame" the issues? Any ideas?

from internet to news rooms. Editors and reporters may check various websites but rarely base the body of their story on what they read here. If they do, they are fools because any clown can post here and put in any crap they want. I pity the journalist who thinks he is doing research on stories online.

4. Not quite true, or so simple... |
|
E-mail is a big, big deal, bigger than the telephone. Web sites will help you get in touch quickly with folks who are on the front line of an issue.
If you are on the front lines, and "conventional" news sources won't touch a topic, you can fire that topic up on the internet, and if it gets hot enough it will spread to the news rooms.
It really is a brand new world.

2. I think a major problem is that it DOESN't flow |

from the net to conventional outlets. The eventual outcome may just be the elimination of the conventional outlets, especially after the net develops more broadband & a/v capacity. It could turn into quite an anarchic playground if left relatively free from regulation. 10,000 Drudges, 10,000 Josh Marshalls all jockeying for viewers...

5. Very true, Career Prole... |

There is so much information and junk that it is difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff...However, I can't help but think that Mo Dowd and a few other big name editorialists sneak a peak at the Internet every once in a while... :)

6. You know it, bro...the most glaring example recently |
|
(which showed up here) was the "coronation" of Moon in the Dirksen Bldg, eh? Remember that one? I ran the dates for some of my buddies in the pressroom and the Washington Post ran the story a month and a half after we had it here in DU via the intrepid bloggers out there...and we had pictures! To add insult to injury the WP gave Salon credit for breaking it, which was patently false. I use to click the shortcut to CNN on my desktop every morning after fetching a coffee...now I got to DU's LBN first. Thousands of pairs of eyes digging out the news and posting it in one place...what an asset! DU newshounds...here's to you! :toast:
