Shosanna Johnson on Larry King: "No matter what this did....
...for the Iraqi people, my friend's lives were worth more than that."

She'll be the next one villified and excoriated by the Right. Frankly, I would put her in office. HEROINE!!

I'd say she has a decent shot at political office, if she wanted it. :)

Right on!

She saw her friends die. She comes from a military family.

Saddam Hussein was a pimple, not worth one drop of American blood. And I've been saying that since the fall of 2002.

then we didn't use enough troops, flinched and backed out.

Still has to be done.

12. Wesley Clark is also there, but also senator Warner and several
others so Clark does not have as much of an opportunity to talk.
(Schieffer, Shoshanna, and somebody else)
Schieffer: civilized nations of the world have to take the group of thugs. It cannot be just the US.
Anderson Cooper: do the Iraqis feel they have their country back? He says... I think sooo.... What they have learned is to be able to protest against the US occupation. But they are like in a waiting period, kind of honeymoon to see what happens.

14. Anderson Cooper: insurgents coming through the borders are different.
The borders are very open. They are able to link freely, and going to hot places like Fallujah (little Taliban kingdom now).
Iraq is now the center of global jihad against the United States.

17. I Still Have a Problem
With her still insisting that her friend's died defending their country.

She's a heroic woman and I wish her and the other POW's the best, but
they need to realize that all those that died, died for Bush and his cronies. The last soldiers to die defending the US were those in WWII.

Korea and Vietnam wasn't to defend the US, both were to fight against Communism, and the invasion of a weaker nation by a stronger one, sound familiar.

Grenada and Panama were attacked for someone's ego, and Desert Storm was to liberate Kuwait, which we did, we just failed to liberate the Kuwaiti people.

Edit: I guess attacking Afghanistan could be considered defending the US, but we've failed to finish the job there, and the opium crop
is supposed to real big this year.

18. Anyone know how to contact Shoshanna Johnson?
I'd like to be able to write to her and tell her how much her words and efforts mean to me!

It occurs to me...... in the past, DU has sent bouquets of thank you to congresscritters...... this is one person who could certainly use some material support. I doubt she's been sent a lot of flowers in her life.....

Anyone interested in pursuing this???!

so I may not watch it, but I know some people didn't want the film shown .....I'm glad Mr. Moore got to show this film, what's the point of showing someone else to be a democratic society if we trample First Amendment rights?" (paraphrase but pretty close)

27. It's a goddamn shame.
She was treated better than the prisoners that WE apprehended. I remember when we were the "good guys". Sadly, that illusion has been proven wrong. What kind of monsters have we become? When did it become OK for us to act like animals?

Ms Johnson was treated for her injuries and returned to her family unharmed. Goddamn this piss-poor excuse for an administration! I have seen the enemy and the enemy is us.

32. Because blue eyes and blonde hair...
sells more papers.

Why is Elizabeth Smart a national hero when young black girls probably go missing every day? When was the last time you saw a young black girl become a national phenomenon because she went missing?

Little blue-eyed, blonde-haired white girls make better press. I say this as a blue-eyed, blonde-haired white boy. It pains me to think of all the young black children growing up in America today just realizing how little they seem to mean to the rest of the country.

36. Larry King Show Fairly Decent Last Night - Good Panel
John Warner, Wes Clark, Shosanna Johnson, Larry King, Anderson Cooper and Bob Sheiffer (CBS).

The calls into the show were amazing. Most callers asked questions of Clark and Warner, and also Johnson. One caller asked about the borders question (Cooper had interviewed someone on his show earlier and the caller was asking him to repeat it. The story was how porous the borders are now, danger - someone on the LK show, this point was not coming out).

When asked what went wrong in Iraq. Clark, Sheiffer said needed more troops. Johnson said troops were well trained, the plan was bad. The troops only cared about marching to Bagdad, but they drove by ammunitions dumps and left them standing. Johnson said should have taken out dumps when they were there.

One caller asked the panel to say whether they will see F911, and if they saw it what they thought. Warner said it is his obligation/duty to see it. Clark said he hadn't seen it, but would. Johnson said it would be painful for her to see it b/c of all friends she lost. Shieffer said something which I missed, but I thought he said he wasn't going to see it, but that he would know b/c of all the attention it received - anybody else remember?

Johnson also talked about not having all the gear they needed - that she had right tools to cook, but that didn't have right gear to stop bullets (vests). Need to get right gear to military. She was a proud proud soldier-- really impressive. She is very sad, very disheartened, but proud of her colleagues.

Wes did a great job talking about Fallahuh and the trouble brewing there. This came out later in the show again, when a caller asked about it, and Cooper had to acknowledge that the city was becoming its own little taliban place.

The only comment Wes made where I wished he had been clearer, taken more time was Warner asked (he did a few times stop and say, Larry if I could just ask - and then would ask Clark a question) Clark whether the war would have gone better if troops were able to enter the country thru turkey/kurdish territory as originally planned. This was a set up IMO, trying to say it is turkey's fault the war didn't go well. Larry gave Clark no time to answer this, but Clark just said yes, things would have gone better if the troops could have gone thru turkey. This answer should have included IMO some reference to the fact that turkey was opposed to the war, as was their right.

All in all, a great discussion - no yelling, no people talking over each other (except for warner asking to ask questions of others).
