Dennis Miller on LAPD beating: "Yeah! Get him!"
http://mediamatters.org/items/200406280005

The same day NBC News correspondent George Lewis reported on NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw that FOX News Channel's FOX & Friends co-hosts E.D. Hill and Brian Kilmeade had laughed about the videotaped beating of an African American man by white police officers -- an act a top LAPD official described as "Rodney King-esque" -- CNBC's Dennis Miller aired the tape of the beating on the June 25 show, with producer and host Dennis Miller narrating the footage.

From the June 25 edition of CNBC's Dennis Miller:

MILLER: Officials in Los Angeles are vowing to bring to justice any police officers who broke the law during -- Yeah! Get him! -- ooh, sorry, who broke the law during the beating of a suspected car thief.

6. My dad was retired LAPD
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 10:14 PM by nini
He was a homicide detective before he was forced to retire due to injuries sustained in a car accident.

THIS KIND OF SHIT PISSES ME OFF TO NO END!! How dare anyone defend any police officer who loses control like that?!?! It takes a very special person to be able to handle being a police officer - I know I couldn't do it. They are expected to keep their composure and are trained to do so. I don't care how freaking pumped up they are on their adrenaline after a chase etc.. It is THEIR JOB to NOT stoop to the level of a suspect in these situations.

I'm sure we'd all like to beat the crap out fo some of these criminals and I'm sure alot of them deserve it - but God Damnit.. we are supposed to be a society that draws the lines with this kind of crap.

My dad told us a story back in the early 60s where one of the officers in his divsion who had a daughter who was raped. They brought the suspect in and the guy went after him. The other officers pulled him off of the suspect because even though they all wanted to kill the asshole, that's what the courts are for. I know not all cops are this upstanding but alot of them are and they are proud, dedicated officers.

It makes me nuts that the good police officers like my dad are lumped in with these idiots who are no better than those they take their justice out on.

My dad was ashamed after the King beating to see what those officers did and let happen. He is no longer here to see this mess.. it would break his heart.

My Dad was one of the good guys and a diehard dem... I miss him so much but what's going on these days would truly make him crazy.

10. Good LTTE in the LA Times..
How could Hatfield say people don't know the "circumstances" because the videotape was so far away? It clearly shows that without hesitation he walked up to a man who was lying on the ground and immediately kicked him in the head, then knelt down and proceeded to hit him with his flashlight 11 times. Beat-your-brains-out kind of hits. You can just throw that "To Protect and to Serve" right out the window when it comes to blacks and other minorities.

I see a future in "corporate events" for him. How the hell can you do a current events discussion show during a controversial war and hands off the President and the War policies no matter what? What's the POINT?

24. The Most Digusting Thing He's Said
...once on Bill Maher when someone was lamenting the rising death toll among our troops, will first he tried to minimize it saying, oh it's not as bad as this war or that war...

Then he says the dead troops "had a calling" to "protect our freedom" and who are we to question that calling? Smug son of a bitch...I'm sure none of his rich country club friends in Santa Barbara's kids have that "calling." I we had a draft we would see how "necessary" it would have been to invade and occupy Iraq, if it where THEIR kids going!

give us details about cops being found guilty, you seem to know a lot about this case.

And is that what the riots were about, were the folks angry about how the cops didn't get a fair trial?

Edited on Tue Jun-29-04 11:34 AM by Cat Atomic
Conservative rhetoric is full of "get rid of big government" commentary. They love to talk about how oppressive government is.

But whenever a case like this comes out- a clear case of an agent of the state actually beating someone- they're on the side of the government.

I don't get it.

30. Colin Quinn
Unfortunately that dude's right after Jon Stewart. I happened to catch his first 5 minutes the other night where he was saying that police should be able to beat the shit out of suspects (with their fists, though, not flashlights -- that's COMPASSIONATE conservatism for you). He said that would reduce the likelihood of people running away from the police. Or something.

This sorry excuse for a man is lower than whale shit!

Someone should tell him that his phony whoring for the right wing is not working. He should go back to telling dirty jokes where at least he was semi-entertaining.
