Bin Laden's non-move in support of Bush |
|
I think the country is probably safe from attack by Al Qaeda until after the election. Bin Laden almost certainly wants Bush elected in November. He needs a United States president who is despised by the rest of the world, particularly Muslims. Bin Laden needs a United States president who over-commits and destroys the U.S. military. He needs a fool in the White House, and that's what he has in Bush.
I don't think there will be a major AQ attack in the United States before the election. But I worry very much about after the election, regardless of who wins. That's when there is a great danger of an attack.
We are in a real pickle. If Kerry wins and there is a post-election attack, the GOP will say it is because we sent the wrong message to terrorists. If Bush wins and there is an attack, we face the possibility of the end of America as we know it. Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, and Rove will take the election as a mandate for Patriot 2 and more wars of conquest.
We need to have this debate, because there are a lot of otherwise intelligent people who don't get that OBL favors a Bush win in November. Who else but Bush would drive up AQ recruitment while letting OBL and Zawahiri get away? I'll bet Bin Laden thanks Allah daily for Bush.
