(snip)

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada's ruling Liberals will stay in power after Monday's federal election, but will lose their majority in Parliament and need support from the left-leaning New Democrats to govern.

CBC television said the Liberals, in power for a decade, would not win the 155 seats they needed to control the 308-seat parliament, although they would win more seats than the Conservative opposition.

That would produce Canada's first minority government for 25 years -- and many political analysts expect a new election within a year.

Currently the results are listed as

LIB 135 seats
37.04% popular vote

CON 94
29.48%

BQ 55
12.73%

NDP 23
15.27%

NA 1
.09%

OTH 0
5.39%

but some of those ridings will surely have recounts, and the results may change somewhat.

1. I was initially pesimistic
so 3 years

now think that we may be in for an interesting few years. The NDP and Liberals will work well together. The 135ish seats for Martin is just the right amount, enough to govern, but enough of a slap to be humbling. besides they gor rid of a lot of dead weight and some rightie Martinites. - lapierre, keyes, pratt etc...

and as for the Conservatives... let the infighting begin. Where is that Randy White fellow? we have a popularity contest for you
After the failure to break through in Ontario AGAIN, the Ontario Conservatives will try and seize power. you can bet on it.

by 3 years, things will be going well and Martin will get cocky and pull a David Peterson.

3. Couldn't have said it better myself
I think Paul and Jack will get along well together. Harper better not sit with his back to the door.
