Was HandOver Was Done To Blunt Impact Of USSC Decisions?
Edited on Tue Jun-29-04 07:20 AM by Justice
The Supreme Court decision yesterday were important not only to Americans - but also to citizens of other countries. Although the original news about the decisions spun them as most good news for Bush, in fact later analysis, and all of the headlines today, show that the Supreme Court largely repuked Bush's policies.

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/06/29/rulings_afford_detainees_their_day_in_court/

Harold Koh, dean at Yale Law School and a former assistant secretary of state for human rights, called the sweeping decision ''a huge blow for the government" and ''a stunning rebuke to claims of unfettered executive authority."

The arguments were made on behalf of detainees from Britain and Australia - as well as other countries. These countries were watching and waiting for the decisions as much as Americans were, if not more. By moving up the date 2 days, the headlines are about Iraq, and then about the ruling. Without the handover headlines, the SC decisions would have been first in line in all major papers.

2. Tut tut tut...
How can you be so cynical? You're helping the terrorists win!

Don't you believe we're acting in the best interests of the Iraqi people? ;-)

They'll enjoy their sovereignty-lite: all the same, great responsibility, but with none of the power! :)

4. Have you noticed that absolutely No One is talking
about F911 at all?

Unkkkle KKKarl Rove must have been REAL busy this weekend manipulating the sheep media.

There seems to be almost NO mention of the F911 phenomenon. today. This is because of the surprise early handover of the "sovereignty", and the upcoming release of Spiderman. (really). CNN headline ran a review and advert for the stupid movie (escapist, naturally) that must have been five minutes long. This is an eternity on this network- the one that celebrates the dumbing down of 'Merikans and the loss of attention span.

The early handover? Come on. This is so transparent it hurts.

5. here's an editorial for you
:D

Editorial: Fahrenheit is rising

Political allies of President Bush and the Republican National Committee, conservative media outlets such as the Fox News channel and the rest of the right-wing establishment went all out to undermine filmmaker Michael Moore's efforts to bring his anti-Bush documentary, "Fahrenheit 9/11," to the movie screens of America.

After reportedly putting behind-the-scenes pressure on the Walt Disney Co. to reject the film - which was finally released independently - conservatives came out of the closet and tried to discourage theater chains from showing "Fahrenheit 9/11." They even filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission seeking to block advertising for the documentary.

Now we know why. Despite claims by conservatives that the politically charged documentary was simply being "hyped" by liberals, "Fahrenheit 9/11" became the highest-grossing documentary of all time on its first weekend in release, taking in $21.8 million.

14. I looked to my wife for help w/ this
She said that not surprising news media
didn't say anything, but when the 6:30pm
entertainment shows made no mention of
the leading weekend movies, that was
censoring.

7. We're used to Rove's managing of events to blunt bad news
However, I think the news this one was staged to blunt was that of the way the Iraqi people would have celebrated their new US-sponsored and assured sovereignty had the ceremonies installing the new sovereign Iraqi government -- protected by American troops -- been held in public tomorrow as scheduled.

8. The early hand over was on the agenda - If folks would just open
their sleepy eye lids and read the fine print on junior's "Road Map to Peace" and also the doctrine of "Staying the Course", you'd have known that the glorious day was gonna be June 28th instead of June 30th at 10:26 AM. A date that will live in history for ever.

God! How dumb can some folks be?

13. Ah, I see. I didn't catch that, a bit slow this morning I guess. Perhaps
too much F9/11 mentality these days. Sort of gets you asking OK what ELSE did they know ahead of time and attempt to use to their advantage.

11. I think they had real intelligence
that Bremer would have been killed if they hadn't accelerated the schedule and gotten him out of Dodge. If he had been hit, it would have been an absolute disaster both there and here.

A friend of ours was in the Green Zone with a surgical unit. They had to move the surgical unit to Tikrit because the Green Zone was no longer safe. This was several weeks ago.
