Disney's and Repugs answer to F9/11?
Coincidence? I Think Not
June 29, 2004 10:24AM (CDT)
The Disney Corporation has announced that they are about to release a "patriotic" film this week titled "America's Heart and Soul."

Disney insists that this is in no way an answer to Michael Moore's Farenheit 9/11. The timing seems just a little more than coincidental. Releasing the film "had nothing to do with Farenheit 9/11, and there is no link at all between the two movies," a Disney executive said.

But it is tough to believe those remarks, when Disney refused to release Moore's film, reportedly after the White House pressured them not to release it, reminding Disney that they had extensive business enterprises in Florida, hinting that the company could lose some tax statuses.

So now the stage is set for Republicans to embrace this new movie and use it as a "patriotic answer" to Moore's "unamerican president bashing" movie.

"America's Heart and Soul" is reveals a series of vignettes that show a variety of Americans pursuing their passions. Howard Kaloogian, the man who spearheaded his right wing organization's unsuccessful boycott campaign against Moore is already trying to drum up support for the new release.

Events just get sillier and sillier.

5. Because it IS "Triumph of the Will"
Our Glorious and Godly Fuhrer will lead us as his Grandaddy's Business Partner, another Famous Fuhrer, did 70 years ago!

2. It sounds like a travelogue
It's been done a thousand times, some guy travelling the country with a movie camera. No big deal.. and certainly not an anti-F911 film.

F-911 is by far the most patriotic film I've ever seen.

3. http://www.savedisney.com/
Roy Disney set this site up after resigning from Disney's BOD.
On the left they have some links re: F/911 and it's success.
I encourage all shareholders to email current BOD chairman George Mitchell via the link on the page and tell him what you think.

Mitchell, Eisner and Disney dropped the ball AGAIN.

4. the point they're trying to make (and failing)
is that you can't both feel "America's Heart And Soul" AND be pissed off at the pretzeldent at the same time.

Wrong jackasses. In fact, you can be both "warm and proud to be an American" and thoroughly want to kick the Bush and the Dick out in November, because that's probably the most patriotic thing we CAN do.

Kaloogian is a simple minded idiot. It will be uproariously funny to see what their box office take turns out to be. I wonder if it will beat out Gigli or When Freddy Got Fingered. Should we take a poll?

7. But that is customary Totalitarian Propaganda Strategy
"You are either a Good nazi or an Enemy of the State."

"It is not possible to critical of Der Fuhrer and be a Good Citizen."

This is nothing new. The only thing new is the PACKAGE, a uniquely American package, the New Totalitarianism is wrapped in.

8. I would imagine that Kaloogian will try to rally support for this
film, in much the same way as MoveOn, DU and others did for F9/11. If that happens, it might do marginally well, but not even close to Moore's movie. Actually, I think Disney's and the Repugs answer is quite funny.

6. F911 covered Americans and their passions too
Some good, some bad, some very very bad.

Protestors.
Our service men and women.
Lila and her wonderful family.
The Bush gang.
Wolfowitz enjoying his comb freedoms.

10. To borrow a <para> phrase from 'Contact'
We are capable of great and wonderful dreams, but also capable of the worst nightmares...

Why is it an 'answer' to FH911 instead of showing what WE CAN BE when we're NOT being led by liars and deceivers?

OUR DREAMS and our country ARE great, but we must continually purge those who would take that away from us.

11. Here's something else:
the source:
http://www.fair.org/activism/disney-moore-update.html

<snip>

Almost all of Disney's major talk radio stations-- WABC in New York, WMAL in D.C., WLS in Chicago, WBAP in Dallas/Ft. Worth and KSFO in San Francisco-- broadcast Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Indeed, WABC is considered the home station for both of these shows, which promote an unremitting Republican political agenda. (Disney's KABC in L.A. carries Hannity, but has Bill O'Reilly instead of Limbaugh.) Disney's news/talk stations are dominated by a variety of other partisan Republican hosts, both local and national, including Laura Ingraham, Larry Elder and Matt Drudge

here's more for those who don't know:

So what is the real reason it won't distribute Moore's movie? The explanation that Moore's agent said he was offered by Eisner-- that Disney was afraid of losing tax breaks from Florida Gov. Jeb Bush-- is more persuasive than Eisner's obviously false public rationale. But more relevant may be Disney's financial involvement with a member of the same Saudi family whose connections to the Bush dynasty are investigated by Moore. Prince Al-Walid bin Talal, a billionaire investor who is a grandson of Saudi Arabia's King Fahd, became a major investor in Disney's Eurodisney theme park when it was in financial trouble, and may be asked to bail out the troubled project again.

It's not unprecedented for Disney to respond favorably to a political request from its Saudi business partner; when Disney's EPCOT Center planned to describe Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in an exhibit on Israeli culture, Al-Walid says that he had personally asked Eisner to intervene in the decision. That same week, Disney announced that the pavilion would not refer to Jerusalem as Israel's capital (BBC, 9/14/99).

That is very telling.

13. I have a feeling the Disney shareholders will want Eisner's head
on a plate. They have lost tons of money by his refusal to air F9/11.
Watch for it. Eisner is digging his own grave on this. The Bush regime must have "something" on Eisner, and will put it out if he doesnt follow orders.

16. I would say his goose is cooked. He barely survived
the last shareholder's meeting, losing a huge chunk of the autonomy he once had in running the company.

The sales figures will be dismal compared to F9/11.
