help - can't find this at Snopes |
|
repuke relative e-mail alert - anybody seen this one? Starts out "consider two classy ladies" quotes newsmax and talks about Thatcher's preps a year ahead of time for Ronnie's funeral, and then about Nancy's taking care of him (can you say full time servants) and ends with this:
"So, when word reached her last week that Bill Clinton wanted to speak at her husband's funeral (to prevent it from being "too politicized," he said), her answer was a resounding NO! A source close to the Reagan family told LeBoutillier that politics had nothing to do with it. She simply would not permit her husband's funeral to be "sullied" by the man who had "desecrated" the Oval Office, a shrine of freedom that Ronald Reagan had held as a sacred trust! Way to go, Mrs. Reagan! Right on!"
Anybody have a debunking I can use?
PS
Wasn't sure if I could post the whole thing - got spanked about the 4 paragraphs rule recently....

1. What makes you think that it isn't true? |

I'm not saying that it is true but it certainly is within the realm of possibility.

4. well, damn that's a good point |

its just that the whole thing is so typical of these things that get passed around by email and is so teeth grindingly onesided, I figured it was at least partially BS. Here is some more of it:
And then there was Nancy Reagan herself, who steadfastly cared for her husband through his declining years and then bravely shared his passing with all of us last week. As if that wasn't classy enough, it was Nancy who personally refused to allow former President Bill Clinton to speak at the funeral in Washington! According to former Republican congressman John LeBoutillier, who forged close ties with the Reagans during their tenure at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Nancy feels that Billy Boy stained (you should pardon the expression) the image of the Oval Office and the Presidency itself. Both Ronald and Nancy Reagan had REVERED the Oval Office. Reagan had made it his policy, throughout his eight years in power, never to enter "the Oval" without a suit and tie on.
Before his inauguration in 1981, Reagan reportedly told aides that he had been shocked by the photographs he'd seen of President Jimmy Carter casually lounging in the Oval Office wearing blue jeans and without a tie. He told his aides that things like that would change once he was sworn in. Of course, Jimmy's casual approach was NOTHING compared to the depravity of Bill Clinton in the Oval Office, his pants down around his ankles and Monica on her knees. THAT had been too much for Nancy Reagan! :puke:

read to them again! Nothing happened in the Oval Office, it was in a hall/passageway off the "Oval".

2. I've never heard of that |
|
I do know that Bill Clinton called and spoke with Nancy Reagan to offer condolences. The funeral program was established before Bill Clinton ever became president. No Democrat was invited to speak, either at the funeral or at the casket presentation in the Capitol. That's the way they wanted it, and you know what, they can have it that way.
I just hope that when Jimmy Carter's time comes we can subject conservatives to a week of hell with eulogies from Jesse Jackson, Vernon Jordan, Barbara Streisand and no conservative speakers.

3. Maybe in a month or two Nancy will go on Larry King or similar |
|
and this can be asked. Since the original source is NewsMax it is highly dubious - amazing how vile they'll be to use Reagan's death to attack Clinton.
I though RR's funeral had been planned years in advance so not sure why this would have been an issue anyway.

I could give a shit about raygun's funeral or whether Nancy said this or not - what I was trying to do was find a quick rebuttal because I just figure anything from these people are bullshit and I DO like to throw it back at them. It sounded just like one of thhese typical urban rumor e-mails that idiots send and in fact some idiot did send it to me, so I'm looking for a snopes-type refute to send back to them.

7. Well, since Nancy made * look like a chump over stem-cell research... |
|
...it sounds like SOMEONE is spreading stories to unite the one happy conservative family by invoking the hated Clenis.
