Democrats Tapping Into Anger Against Bush
here's some really good news ... maybe we will take back the House and Senate too !! keep up the good work ...

source: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=615&e=1&u=/nm/20040629/pl_nm/campaign_intensity_dc

<snip>

Political scientists believe that intensity, though sometimes difficult to quantify, plays a key role in elections. In the 1994 mid-term elections, polls showed a close race until the final days of the campaign.

However, on Election Day, unmotivated Democrats stayed home while angry Republicans flocked to the polls and caused an electoral landslide in which their party won control of both houses of the U.S. Congress. Some Democrats believe something similar may be brewing in their favor this year.

"The dislike of Bush is different in quality and depth of feeling to any I can remember," said Tom Andrews, a former Democratic congressman from Maine who now heads an anti-war organization, Win Without War.

"The unity and the level of commitment to defeating this president is unprecedented. I've never seen Democrats so determined and so focused," Andrews added.

1. IMHO the democrats could be doing much more damage to bush
maybe they are waiting for the Plame indictments or F911 to do thier bidding.

They could be all over the recent "missing and unaccounted for" Iraq $20 billion from th eoriginal $87B...but not a peep.

3. I agree
I think they're looking to chain it, like F911 makes wide release, VP announcement, 9/11 commission slams Bush, Cheney indicted for Plame thing (I wish), maybe new economic numbers go down, again -- all the way to November. It's a momentum thing. But they'd better shit or get off the pot, soon and soon and soon.

Thing is -- what's with the commerical at Bush's homepage that rips on all the Democrats who speak passionately? Is this all part of the plan to change everyone into human capital? To deride emotions? Let me guess, though -- sappy sentimentality will be OK...

8. welcome to DU, Cats Against Frist !!
i think the Democrats are doing very well so far ...

I understand that many of us, especially those of us on the left, would like to see a much sharper, much more aggressive campaign ...

but i'm not sure that would be the most effective approach competing for the undecided vote ... Kerry has established himself as mature, cautious, and responsible ...

that may be more appealing to undecideds than sharply partisan rhetoric ...

anyway, things are likely to get much more heated as we get closer to election day ...

10. Yes, pick up congressional seats and..
Bush is only part of the problem. We should be looking for all the house and senate seats we can get.

And we should berate the media into at least a neutral stance. Lots to be done.

11. welcome to DU, KurtNYC !!
wow, lots of new posters in this thread ... nice to see it ...

the question is, what strategy should the democrats be using to help house and senate candidates ...

i don't think Kerry is likely to campaign with congressional candidates until after the convention ...

2. It's About Damn Time
It really is about damn time that the Democratic Party found its balls. I for one, am so pissed off at the direction of the country, I will, hopefully be running for office myself in 2006. Then the republicans can see what a real angry Democrat looks like

12. I am taking it is a Republican controlled District.
Where in Wisconsin is it?

I live in the 6th CD of Colorado. We really need to get rid of our rep this year. You may have heard of Tom "Border Cop" Tancredo. Joanna Conti is doing better than anybody would have expected and God, I hope she defeats him.

13. It Is
It is held by a republican, Paul Ryan. He is one of the fast moving rep. He's young, doesn't look half bad, and can talk. But, our Senior Senator, Herb Kohl is possibly retiring, and if he does, Ryan will go after that seat, thereby opening the seat.

15. Maybe we could put FratBoy's face on a milk carton with the following....
...information:
=======================
Missing.

Have you seen me?

Name: FratBoy Bush
Last known age: 40
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 185

Disappeared September 11, 2001, while visiting Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, FL.

Has delusions of grandeur...believes he is the president. Not very coherent...tends to garble words and phrases. Easily angered by virtually anyone that asks a question he doesn't want to answer. Cannot be depended on for any reason...tends to run away from responsibilites. Blew up frogs with firecrackers as a child.

In a battle of wits, he is believed to be unarmed.

14. David Broder admitted on NPR
that he thinks both the House and the Senate are going to go to the Dems this time.

Expect a major Republican backlash this fall. Too much shit has come out in the last four years and people are waking up.

18. surrounded by Republicans
I work with many Republicans who really don't know anything about current events and really don't care about politics ...

and yet, when i ask them whom they'll vote for, they say "i'm a republican so i'll probably vote for bush" ... it really drives me crazy ...

most of these people are so apolitical that they refuse to listen to anything about politics ... they don't know and they don't care ...

it's a tough crowd to educate ...

20. there's an opening there...
in the "probably". I don't know any democrats who say they are "probably" going to vote for Kerry... Presuming he's the nominee.

If support for Bush is wavering in some people, maybe the thing to do is point out the areas where he's really gone back on what are supposed to be some bedrock conservative principles. There's no way anyone can call this administration "fiscally responsible" for example. Maybe, if you can't sell them on Kerry, you can just sour them on Bush enough so they stay home on Nov. 2.

22. I am tapping into my inner Democrat
and she is pissed! I have always been a good rank and file Dem. You could count on me to show up to vote the straight ticket, maybe donate a few $'s to a liberal cause, but that was about it. And then came Bush and his group election stealing scum. Who call me a bad American because I dare question his policies in Iraq. Who call me a bad person for simply disagreeing with them. Now, everyday I try to do at least one thing that will help defeat Bush and his gang of nasties. And it is great to spend time on sites like this one and go to movies like F9/11 because now I know that there are lots and lots and lots of people who feel the same.
