Recharging The Liberal Soul: San Francisco Gay Pride '04
I just got back from San Francisco's gay pride extravaganza very early this morning. My god I was tired. But I am SO much more driven and hopeful that this growth on America's butt we call Shrub can be removed. I had never in my LIFE heard such hatred for a politician. There were Shrub effigies, LIAR shirts, and "George W. Bush: You are fired" stickers. There is a city full of Shurb Haters.

Also, I think about every major city official in San Francisco was in the parade, shoulder to shoulder with the naked guys, transgender people, leather mamas, and "dykes on bikes." I feel more ready and confident than ever going into this election. Note too my new avatar, picked up from my trip!

To all the Democratic Underground people who came to the SF pride event, supported it, helped plan it, etc., a special thanks for having such a wonderful, open minded city where one can truly feel free to be who they are!! :pals:

Beyond this, though, I saw an energy saving public transportation system that was mind-blowing and conscious of mass consumption. I saw people of all colors, genders, creeds, etc. walking hand in hand. Mere words cannot describe the virtues of the bay area!

1. Glad you had a great time!
Yes, it is very nice to live as a liberal in the Bay Area. Very nice; we are damn lucky. And we had some just perfect weather; I was there with the little one on Saturday, and it was just lovely. Glad you had a great time :-)

But I can't leave you with the impression that mass transit works here! If you live outside the city of SF (and the majority of folks do), especially if you live on the peninsula, then you are SOL when it comes to public transit.

2. It was apparently also a great place to pick up girls.
At least my son says so. He and his friend went just to show support and says they attended a couple of parties afterwards. He said with so many gay guys there were lots of lonely straight girls around so he and his friend made out pretty well and he has since went out with one. Glad it turned out well.
