"WHY WE CAN'T SUPPORT THE DEMOCRATS IN NOVEMBER" |
|
Last night at the F-911 house party here in new orleans I encountered a man who is a member of this organization ( www.workersdemocracy.org ). Their mission statement says, "The goal of the Workers Democracy Network is to organize a democratic workers movement that unites all workers, on an equal basis, around our common interests. We oppose business unionism and all cooperation with the corporate elite...."
This organization is a little mysterious to me b/c I strongly agree with many of their views and articles but this one article written by the man I met was very different. The title of the article is, "WHY WE CAN'T SUPPORT THE DEMOCRATS IN NOVEMBER" This article is not online but i read it and it seems to be trying to convince workers to fight capitalism by not supporting the Democrats. The first part of the article names all these "repressive policies" that were created by Clinton legislation.
"A step forward in the electoral arena is to build a real working class alternative to the two parties of capitalism."
"the first step in making a movement that can break with these two parties is to break the ideological hold that the Democrats still maintain on many working people...."
"The Democrats will not compromise their commitment to capitalism, rather those to change the party will compromise their anti-capitalism, orin this period of capitalist decay, even their commitment to liberalism" Jay Arena - Workers Democracy VOl 5, No.1

2. Not voting Dem means the GOP wins |
|
and I don't think this group will be happy with 4 more years of Shrub. Best to vote Dem this time then work to change the party or boost a more progressive third party.

But they've done a hell of a lot more for working people than the Republicans have.

If he wants to recruit people to his cause, a good starting point is being comprehensible.

the guy is a member of the communist party. nothing wrong with that, but of course any of the other parties, in addition to the dems and repubs will not follow what they want. but since the communist party is still officially outlawed in the US they call themselves other names like workers democracy and such.

I was at a coffee shop at the riverbend last week and overheard a man (who seemed to be in construction work) saying that the working people are going to unite and throw Bush out of office. He said that everyone needs to support Kerry. I wonder if it was the same guy at the house party, but maybe the article is old.
What part of the city was the party at?

8. Come on...Clinton was no liberal... |
|
he took the Democratic party in the totally wrong direction...made more consevative policies than any Dem ever had. He neglected Unions, environment, social justice....don't be like repugs and refuse to see the 'bad' in our leaders. Right now getting Bush out of office is job #1...JOB #2 reforming the Democratic party...money is influencing our party too...time for a complete overhaul and get progressive again.

31. Clinton was the right guy at the right time |
|
No way was a hard-core lib going to win the White House in '92.
Hate to be a naysayer, but look at Dukakis and Mondale. They were basically laughed at. No way a hard left guy was getting elected after 12 years of Reagan and Bush.
Clinton is a fairly liberal to moderate guy who had to make a lot of compromises. Usually, compromise is the only way to get things done in D.C. And he did make the Democratic party look good, blowjobs aside. All in all, he was a great president. With experience in balancing Arkansas' budget, he helped usher in the most robust economy in our nation's history, regardless of what the GOP might lead you to think.
Hell, in a perfect world, IMHO, we'd have a President Kucinich. But we don't live in a perfect world. Yet.
This stuff takes some time.
And this is coming from me, a guy who thinks Paul Wellstone was the best senator of the past two decades.

...and while I am with them 99%, that 1% diff is that I know we have to get rid of Bush before we can go about the business of moving the center back to the left... this before we can even dream of a social democracy...

16. Tha Vanguard Party, Sir |
|
Is, by virtue of its understanding of the principles of history and the struggle, the expression of the united will of workers, and has no need therefore to consult them when acting in their best and revolutionary interests....

Of course, they don't count the last hundred years of the principles of history in that, otherwise they'd learn too much about what happens when vanguard parties try to act in revolutionary interests!

I hope they're working hard to elect Marxists to the City Council and the state legislature because, until they have some real political success somewhere, their views on the Presidential campaign are without merit.

30. Marx was right: there was very little chance of communism in Russia. |
|
Trotsky was right, too: it was a mistake for the worker-army councils to allow the Central Committee to seize all power.

i found out about it through a move on email that linked me to a page that would allow you to find parties in your area. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=1889484&mesg_id=1889484I think these same hosts will be having a party July 11. There is also one (we're thinking of going to) is in Metairie (believe it or not)
