'Fahrenheit 9/11' sets record (in Fayetteville, military town)
"Fahrenheit 9/11," a left-sided documentary that bashes the Bush administration's war on terrorism, wouldn't find much of an audience in a military town.

Or so they thought.

"This has broken all of our past records," said Nasim Kuenzel, an owner of the Cameo Art House Theatre. "The movie that I thought would make us hardly any money - I never thought it would break all the records."

(snip)

Saturday and Sunday were just as busy, Kuenzel said, with nearly 1,000 tickets sold over the weekend. As many as 75 percent of moviegoers were soldiers or military families, Kuenzel said.

Many were like Natalie Sorton. She is 25 and married to an infantryman who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. "I want to see what my husband is fighting for," Sorton said Monday before going into the theater with a friend, Kathy Norris.

1. Good news - the truth is reaching people we need to reach
I said it before, and I'll say it again. Barring another war or another attack, Bush is gone in November.

2. These lines floor me:
Lea Barnes, a Republican, seemed giddy as she and a friend bought tickets Monday.

"I'm not pleased at all about the way things are going" with the war, Barnes said. "I trust Michael Moore. He can be out there a bit, but he's for the common man."

:wow: People get it.

3. applause, standing ovations, and tears in the eyes
Good find, Southernleftylady. This part got to me:

Almost all the crowds at the Cameo have applauded the film at the end, with some people giving standing ovations, Kuenzel said. Many have tears in their eyes as they leave the theater.

"I think it's going to open my eyes a little, and that worries me," Sorton said before taking her seat.

4. I hope Natalie Sorton had support after she left the movie
That's gotta be hard. Getting hit between the eyes, like that.

I hope she's doing OK. It's gotta feel very bad for her.

5. The most important part of F-911 was...
Moore's reverance to military families. He was respectful beyond belief, and I was happy to see that.

7. Remember, most of these folks are not DU'ers.
So, this film must have hit them like a ton of bricks.

Word-of-mouth will ensure many other military personnel and their families in this community-and others similar around the country-will finally get the truth by watching this film.

Thanks for this important post!

:-)

10. If you liked Fahrenheit 9/11, DU me a favor please
Head over to IMDB, rate the film, and maybe even write some brief commentary. Then, take another minute to hit the IMDB message board for the movie and refute a neocon troll. They're swarming over there, spewing their vile copy-paste lies about Moore and his film.

11. I was thinking
During the film, was MM going to mention that the terrible things up there weren't pattern acts of the entire military.

And then at the end, he hits you with the honest truth about service. About how those most screwed by the system are ALWAYS the first ones to fight, so many don't have to.

I wonder if he could have been more respectful, but then I remember all those scenes of troops and leaders putting their own feet in their mouths. Corruption breeds corruption.
