19. Where is a woman in the member of this club?
Why haven't we had a female president in this country? If we're so progressive and sophisticated, why hasn't that happened?

Is it really that alien an idea? Do the guys pay lip service to this idea but stay in the club?

Doesn't anyone around here understand what I am asking?

22. But newsguy, regardless of race or sexual orientation, women
make up more than half the population in the United States. And I'm getting a bit embarrassed about this boys' club thing.

It's almost regressive. I don't like it.

women represent more than 50% of the population...we're not exactly a minority...technically...just extremely underrepresented, etc.

I wonder how many denizens of DU realize when it was that women were allowed to vote and when they were allowed to own property in the U.S.

I will bet that most here don't know these dates.

"Ask" ?

No, my friend. It's far past time for that.

I guess I'm just leaping forward here, but it seems as if I am living in some kind of backlash.

35. "Where is a woman in the member of this club?"....Ummm,
that day is coming, and when it does I'll be the first to stand up and applaud. But using a picture of two of the most progressive national Democrats to have ever held office - one an ex-president and the other one the presumed Democratic nominee this time around - is a pretty dreary way to make a point, IMHO, "pissed off" though you may be.

41. I don't really care what...
...your great grandmother did, or where she graduated from: it is utterly irrelevant to the discussion you started. And since you're not the resident hall monitor, I'll say what I fucking well please, thank you. And I say this: the day will come when a woman will raise her right hand on a cold January day and take the oath of office to be President of the United States. That day is coming, and it'll be a great one.

45. Because our damn country is STILL being run by old white men!
Drives me crazy! We've made some inroads on that in other levels of government, but as with most things... it's all one big old boy's network. I hate that, too.

33. Wait...Wait...
I know what's wrong with this picture...the wrong man is running for president. If only Kerry had Clinton's charisma, intelligence, wit, speaking ability, country attitude...basically, if Kerry was Clinton...then...then the picture would be correct.

36. The guy in the middle, in the back
is out of focus. There is the top of someone's head in the foreground right. There is another top of someone's head inthe foreground left, and the way the picture was shot, it looks like they have fingers coming out of their forehead.

Kerry's forehead is a bit shiny, and the photo emphasizes Lieberman's bald spot a little too much.

OK, sorry to be a smart ass, but when you ask a photographer what's wrong with a picture.

If you've stayed with me this far, I admit I never would've thought about the fact that there's no females in it. I don't like the boys club either, but I guess I've gotten so used to it that I don't even think about it anymore.

I am a male feminist, and would like to see a lot more females in leadership positions. The last time there was a major party candidtae for the Whitehouse who was female was Ferraro in '84, and people used to actually ask, "what if she gets all emotional during a national crisis?"

NO SHIT!

Good post. You got people thinking, which was probably your objective, right?

I hope you post more along these lines, and possibly offer some ideas as to what we can do about it.

I, for one, am listening.

Thanks!

39. There's about a million freakin' posters on this forum...
but I'll try to watch for your name on threads, as often as I get here.

I will also try and think about this myself.

You know, all I think about anymore is getting rid of Bush, and venting about Right wing assholes.

Maybe I could expand the repertoire.

42. As a Women
We are our worse enemy. I say this because there are more of us then men, but we don't stick together. We find reasons to find fault on one other. Jobs, Family, Love life, Looks etc.. Thats the Truth & its a Shame. There will never be a women President as long as we women don't stand together.
