Here's how I figure it:

Iraq has a population of http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/iz.html">25 million versus US at http://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/popclock">294 million.

Iraq Body Count estimates http://www.iraqbodycount.net/">9451 to 11333 Iraqi civilians killed (midpoint = 10392).

Iraqi military deaths are conservatively estimated at http://www.comw.org/pda/0310rm8.html">9200 (though some estimates run http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,965235,00.html">as high as 45000).
(294/25) x (10392 + 9200) = 227,000 dead.

That would be traumatic, to say the least.

but I think it is a very conservative estimate for it. If Iraqi military deaths were 30,000 (not even the upper estimate of 45,000 mentioned in the Guardian), the equivalent total deaths for a US-sized population goes to 467,000 people.
