PNAC mentioned on Letterman tonight! The Tide Has Turned!
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 01:11 AM by Stephanie

I am stunned. I was in a noisy restaurant watching Joseph Wilson on closed-caption, and when I saw PNAC scroll across the screen I just could not believe it. PNAC! On Letterman!

Who saw it with sound? How did it play?

1. When you say that...
...you mean that they were mentioned on Letterman? Right? THe header sounds like PNAC's opinion of Letterman.

2. Joseph Wilson was the guest on Letterman tonight
And he cited PNAC in explaining why Bush went to Iraq without evidence of WMD's.

3. he mentioned debating Bill Kristol...
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 01:13 AM by thebigidea
who had blurted nonsense about changing the Middle East, and Wilson said something like "You'll have to ask him what he means about that" - then mentioned PNAC in the next breath.

Oh, that Bill!

8. It sure IS good...I like that the "word" PNAC is OUT THERE...
probably more (average) people watch TV than radio or surf the net...this great.

I told my daughter about the PNAC doctrine/document some time back and she thought I was nuts...

Go Joe, Go Letterman

14. once again, comedians rush in where journalists fear to tread.
It's a sorry state of affairs when Letterman and Jon Stewart provide the most accurate (and intelligent, and funny) portrayals of what is happening with this administration. Thank goodness for the two of them. I used to feel bad that so many young people say they rely on them and other talk show hosts for their news, but that's far more an indictment of Big Journalism today than of the young people.

23. Role of the comic
Bill Hicks, not-so-famous dead-hero stand-up-comic, said that the comic was the guy standing at the back of the posse who says "Now, wait a minute...".

His overarching concept on the role of comedy and the comic was that the comic was simila to Shiva, in that it is the comic's job to destroy the conventions, presuppositions and mores of a society in order that they might be examined and "rebuilt" in more fully-realized versions. Very metaphysical. But then, he did a lot of drugs.

It's only within the last 20-30 years or so that the "observational" style has emerged and a more bland, non-specific type of comic became the norm.

And Stewart is only STEWART on the set of "The Daily Show". I saw him at a concert gig about a year ago, and he was as banal and trite as any other comic. For whatever reason, the show brings out his political side, and thank God for it.

Not that you asked about any of this...

16. Same here
Right before the war I sent a mass email to my whole family and we got into huge arguments about it. They all thought I was a kook and that it sounded like some "kooky conspiracy theory".

22. That's why they're getting away with it.
Because it sounds like a "kooky conspiracy theory". No one takes those things seriously, so when a real one pops up no one will pay attention! It's actually quite brillint when you think about it.

And here I thought that The X-Files was just a TV show.

18. Show Her The Web Page
How can you be considered nuts, explaining what they intend, when they, PNAC, have every bit of it on the web for anyone to see. You did't make it up, its out there for anyone at all to take a look at.

25. I enjoyed all the replies to my thoughts...
I never thought about it before, but the comedic force in politics is truely a brilliant avenue to make people think isn't it.

As for my lovely daughter, well, she will either "get it" in the end or she won't even care.

I think that because the facts are coming out in so many places, my original warnings will be vindicated to some degree. She does have her hands full with a nasty custody battle; however, she is ALSO being influenced a wee bit by her rabid right wing father. Time will tell. She listens better than most people's kids, she's just slow to jump on the bandwagon sometimes. Too careful maybe. I will show her the webpage of the doctrine if it comes to it.

It's odd; my oldest daughter, who has been a wild child all her life. The one whose son I'm raising would be the FIRST one to believe me right off the bat. She KNOWS the "system" stinks from the roots up. It wouldn't take anything at all to make her a passionate patriot for the cause. Even her son, my grandson, knows and hears and asks more about politics than my youngest daughter. Life is strange sometimes.

More often than not, it would seem, that it is easier to convince a stranger of your message than to get it across to one's own family.....

26. My family thinks I'm nuts when I talk about PNAC, too.
I blame Bush for making me into a conspiracy believer. Before I found out about PNAC and Halliburton and Enron and House of Bush I was a fairly well-adjusted nervous American.

Now I'm a wild-eyed conspiracy freak!

. Though being a public website, you can always comfort yourself that it isn't really a conspiracy and send the links to your friends. You can also print up the pdf.

have to wait until the last ten minutes of the show but it's worth it.

21. They'd probably take the website down
and PNAC would be a "page not found" like so many other links that the BFEE doesn't want us to see!
In fact, I'm surprised it hasn't been "re-classified" by A$hcroft.

And the thing is, who can argue with his motives? BFEE attacked his WIFE. Any man would respond the same way, or, they would like to think that they would.

mostly people seemed to be listening carefully, but when he said the Bush administration's vengeful tactics against their opponents was "unamerican," the audience broke out in applause. It was awesome.

29. I'm watching Letterman now on the left coast...
and he hasn't gotten to Wilson yet, but he commented that Saddam Hussein was turned over to the Iraqi government today, and will stand trial tomorrow, and by Friday, he'll be President of Iraq again.

Then he said something like: "Saddam is reported to be arrogant, defiant, still thinks everyone likes him, and still thinks he's President. Oh, wait a minute. That's Bush".

Then he went into a thing about "How you can tell Bush has been drinking" and shows this hilarious clip of Bush giving a speech where he makes these hideous faces and swallows his words, appearing totally blotto. I don't know where Letterman gets these video clips, but my favorite is the one he showed repeatedly for a week or so of Bush spitting on the White House lawn after waving to the cameras.

So Bush spits and Cheney cusses on the Senate Floor. What a team.
Letterman mentioned Bush used to like to drink and was also a cheerleader. "What qualifies you better to be the leader of the free world than having been a drunken cheerleader?"

Letterman cracks me up.

31. I just noticed
that the original post in this thread was at 6:05 a.m. June 30, and that my post above is listed after 7 a.m. July 1.

Apparently the original poster saw the June 29 show - yesterday's show.

Wilson wasn't on Letterman in California tonight, June 30.
