Panel head: make plans to cancel election in case of terror attack
WASHINGTON -- The government needs to establish guidelines for canceling or rescheduling elections if terrorists strike the United States again, says the chairman of a new federal voting commission.

Such guidelines do not currently exist, said DeForest B. Soaries, head of the voting panel.

Soaries was appointed to the federal Election Assistance Commission last year by President Bush. Soaries said he wrote to National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice and Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge in April to raise the concerns

The only right choice; everything else would have been giving in to terrorists.

6. What don't they understand about
"the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November".

The constitution survived the Civil War when there probably was very good reason to postpone. If they do it now it only be to finalize and make permanent the coup of 2000.

29. "You say you want a revolution..."
People will take to the streets in the tens of millions to overthrow this illegitimate government if it attempts to stage a terrorist attack on the eve of the election and then cancels the election.

I for one, will exercise my right to forcefully overthrow this regime in that event.

22. No, IG, this moron knows that we live in "'Murica"
Where the majority of the Faux watching, Rush listening patriotic 'Muricans will not only welcome postponed elections(indefinetly even), they will fall on their knees thanking God that martial law will be established. At which point they will take the opportunity to turn in all those suspicious characters in their community to Reich(oops, Homeland) Security, simply because those people are different and shady, ie liberals.

This is Bushco's Plan C. If they can't win legitimately, they will rig the election via vote scrubbing and BBV. If that doesn't work, then expect another "terrorist" attack a day or two before the election. Elections will be "postponed until the terror threat is significantly diminished" and martial law will be established.

Background of DeForest B. Soaries

The Associated Press

(AP) — NAME: DeForest B. Soaries Jr.

AGE-BIRTH DATE: 52; Aug. 20, 1951.

BIRTHPLACE: Brooklyn, NY.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from Fordham University, 1986; master's of divinity, Princeton Theological Seminary, 1989; doctor of ministry, United Theological Seminary, 1992.

EXPERIENCE: Appointed to the federal Election Assistance Commission, December 2003; senior pastor, First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, Somerset, N.J., 1990 to present; New Jersey secretary of state, 1999-2002; college professor, 1988-1999; assistant pastor, Shiloh Baptist Church, Trenton, N.J., 1985-1990; president, Seventh Day Christian Conference, New York, 1976-1985; national coordinator for Rev. Jesse Jackson's Operation PUSH, 1974-1976.

FAMILY: Married to Margaret Donna Soaries; twin sons, Malcolm and Martin, 14.

QUOTE: "I find it to be incredible that Congress could work this hard on an issue this important and then forget to fund the commission. I find it illogical that our mandate would be to distribute $2.3 billion, and not have the capacity to inform people about how to spend the money. I find it disingenuous that Congress would not have placed a greater sense of urgency on this to expedite many of the things that need to happen. And I think it's just plain dumb, this year, for Congress to be so stuck on having no supplementals that we can't find $2 million this year to help us be more prepared for the 2004 election."

21. In order for that to be effective, they must repeal an act already
passed.

Congress gave away the power to Bush to do this already under the auspices of an emergency condition.

Buy guns. It's your last hope.

a terrorist attack if they think they are losing the election.

They arent winning so they will create another terrorist attack?

Im sure they are tracking every American who opposes them due to the Patriot Act***,

Along with Fahrenheit, I am now hearing stories of amazing abuses of our Civil Liberties which John Ashcroft has used in the name of the Patriot Act. It is an abomination, beyond invasive and abusive, and not to mention, inexusable, considering WE ARE PAYING THEIR SALARY TO CREATE LAWS THAT OPPRESS US????

WHERE ARE THE DEMOCRATIC LEADERS ON THIS??

Tom Daschle where are you? Nancy Pelosi where are you?

Assuming you are both quite wealthy at this point, you still have your constituents to consider.

I am embarassed at this country because of the display of classism at the expense of so many Americans. And so few of our Democratic leaders, including Daschle and Pelosi seem to care. Perhaps they do, but the actions of theirs escape me. Not to mention the 30,000 of innocent Iraqi citizens that have died for nothing except their oil. You talk about Israel? What about these dead individuals. Do they not count because of monetary value?
