Everything you ever wished you didn't know about our new ambassador.

John Negroponte

John Dimitri Negroponte has served as the United States Representative to the United Nations since September 2001. On April 19, 2004, President George W. Bush nominated Negroponte to become U.S. Ambassador to Iraq following the projected June 30, 2004, handover of sovereignty to as yet undetermined Iraqi authorities. <1> <2>

go to the link above for all the rest.

just a teaser or two:

Upon learning of Negroponte's nomination, Reed Brody of Human Rights Watch in New York commented: “When John Negroponte was ambassador (to Honduras from 1981 to 1985) he looked the other way when serious atrocities were committed. One would have to wonder what kind of message the Bush administration is sending about human rights by this appointment”.

Negroponte faced contention over U.S. intentions during the U.N. debate leading up to the war in Iraq. In March 2003, Negroponte "walked out ... after Iraq's ambassador accused the United States of trying to exterminate the Iraqi people. ... Iraq's U.N. envoy Mohammed Al-Douri charged that the United States had arranged for contracts to rebuild Iraq in 1997, six years before the U.S.-led war began had even planned the carving up of Iraq before Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990." <20> See war profiteering for current information.

And this is our new man in Iraq. I could not believe it when he was appointed ambassador for the US to the UN, but this appointment is over the tin foil hat top for me. Negroponte to IRAQ. It's like Bush, INC. just saying "Bring It On" to the world while saying nothing or we "as Americans" enjoy hitting the hornet's nest, just to see what will happen.

6. Might want to keep a beady eye on Negroponte's wife too
Found her at Freedom House board of Trustees. Could be british. Father an ex-chairman of British Steel (?) (the Villiers bit of the name). It's the connection with the british Conservative Party that is interesting although a long time ago probably when she was young and just left university.

7. Jon Huntsman (& his family) donated $294,500 to GOP in 2000
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 12:23 PM by jackstraw45
And he was appointed Duputy US Trade Representative (a helpful position to have for future overseas business dealings).

Ronald Rosenfeld donated $109,625 in the last election cycle and was appointed President ofg the Government National Mortgage Association (another Senate confirmed position).

Gaddi Vasquez, a former county supervisor in California, who had NEVER donated a penny to a political campaign prior to 2000, gave $105,716 to the GOP in 2000 and was appointed director of the Peace Corps, an agency he's never spent a minute with before.

Our good friend, Donald Rumsfeld, donated $68,500 in 2000.

And Elaine Chao, Secretary of Labor, donated $67,700 to GOP & Bush in 2000.

NONE of these folks were Ambassadors (who often give 6 figures). Amazing, isn't it....
