Hannity&Colmes"Battleground States Poll Update"
The esteemed Ollie "If I knew so much about politics I would be a Senator now" North sitting in Hannity's booster chair.

Last night they offered there take on the current situation continuing the right's remain-calm-all-is-well-portray-STRENGTH strategy (which I think is a mistake).

The numbers were flying so fast it was hard to figure out who was where and the source of the polls.

-First screen-
Bush and Kerry in statistical tie (Kerry actually leading-Bush's name on top mind you) but with Nader having little effect
-flip screen-
Quinnipiac poll shows Bush IN THE LEAD (statistical tie even with Nader in)
-flip screen-
Pennsylvania - Bush with a slight LEAD (statistical tie)
-flip screen-
Florida (I think it might have been Ohio) Bush within the statiscal margin (Kerry leading)
-flip screen-
South Carolina Bush with a commanding 11 point lead
-flip screen-
Mississippi Bush with a COMMANDING 21 point lead MORE than he beat Gore by in 2000

Ollie then went on to tell us (ignore the quote from earlier in the show above) that he is certain Bush will win by 5% in both the general votes and electoral college votes.

Hold it-Mississippi? A battleground state? :eyes:

1. Enough said
(Josh Marshall)

I take it as a given that virtually no Gore voters from 2000 will pull the lever for Bush. But how many lightly-committed Bush voters from 2000 will hold him to account if they believe he gambled big and gambled unwisely with America's honor and safety, and came up short? I think more than a few. And since there were more Gore voters than Bush voters last time anyway, well ...

I must say I agree 100% with Josh, this is why I am totally relaxed about this upcoming election. I really see no way for Bush to win. Because even if not one Bush supporter switches and we can assume(I Know) that the votes are counted correctly WE WIN.

2. I'm not counting any chickens yet
I just hear this over and over (bits of Rush and Hannity plus Fox News) and I don't get it. There seems to be no call for W's supporters to get out and work. Maybe they are counting on their ARMY of volunteers to do the job or maybe they are waiting to unleash the rank and file, I don't know but they seem so scared of W appearing to be mortal that they are only concerned with keeping the base tight.

You are right in that W can't afford to lose one vote and the "He is President in a time of war so I will vote for him" thing has pretty much been washed away by actual events-no matter how candy coated they are for mass consumption.

3. Also
The convicted Ollie was using bogus Fox numbers. They had Bush winning PA,MI,FL,OH. I live in PA and the only way Bush can win PA is if Philly falls into the Atlantic or Pittsburgh falls into the Lake Erie. Fox poll is the only poll that shows Bush leading in PA and there is no way Bush is leading by ten in FL as Fox say's. Fox has Bush winning 47-41, Gallup has it tied and CBS has it tied.

4. "And between them is a whole lot of Alabama"
Carville's famous quote on Pa and the areas outside of Philly and Pittsburgh.

Yeah I knew it was bogus-not only the numbers they showed (did you see it? I think they sued several different sources but I could be wrong) but HOW they showed them. There was almost no way to keep up with what appeared on the screen you pretty much got only what they were saying.

6. Fox at it again
I guess they had to end with old Miss. as the climax to assure Fox viewers that Bush is doing great. A battleground state? Oh my. Yea just like Massachusetts is a battleground state.
