Leahy: The Gloves are off.
The bill I introduced recently in the Senate would have
restricted Halliburton and others from profiteering while
American soldiers are fighting. The Republicans blocked the
bill. And the Vice President, who ran Halliburton and is a tad
touchy about its no-bid contract and the charges it has abused
U.S. taxpayers, was not happy. Obviously.

The message the Vice President sent me with his unfortunate
choice of language was clear. The gloves are off "big time."

THis is from a DSCC email for pledging that I got. I thought that you might find this interesting.

4. On another Leahy front:
Separately, Sen. Patrick Leahy, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, also has asked Ashcroft to answer questions about issues raised in the AP story but has yet to receive answers.

"The odd handling of this case raises questions that deserve answers from the Justice Department," Leahy, of Vermont, said Tuesday. "Why was a suspected terrorist returned to a country that sponsors terrorism? We need to know that the safety of the American people and our strategic goals in countering terrorism are paramount factors when decisions like this are made."

7. He's one of the good guys
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 10:07 AM by DaveSZ
We still have a few good guys in the Senate, but most are spineless.

I look forward to having Obama in there.

We need a leader to rally around. Hopefully he will after the convention.

29. Don't hold your breath.
Kerry, to date, has shown little regard for being "controversial" or taking any risks. He seems to be running his campaign according to DLC rules.

I am sorry but I doubt any DC Dem has the courage to fight. Pretty shittty track record so far. How often does the bully need to stomp your nuts and steal your fruitcake before you start dropping the dogs?

13. It's about fucking time
Gee, after a stolen election, being lied into war, largest deficit in history, cronyism at its worst, loss of international allies, etc., etc., it took an expletive to get our guys to take "the gloves off." No rush, fellas.

14. Woo Hoo, Leahy is steamed and itchin' for a fight!
Cheney really cheesed off Leahy (he didn't even apologize!!) and the GOP is gonna regret their arrogance. You can't mess with a Democratic Senator like Leahy and not pay a political price.

15. I had to puke yesterday....
When watching a repuke pollster (can't remember his name) commenting on whether W would stick with Cheney. His answer was he would be shocked if W chose anyone other than Cheney.....that he was still a very viable and solid "complement" to W....with W being basically an "outsider" complemented by Cheney being an "insider".

But what he said which was nauseating was that "the democrats better let up on Cheney as far as Halliburton".....because....now get this....a dozen employees have lost their lives in Iraq!!!

Now let's think about that...let's all take pause and cut Cheney some slack....because some of his buddies got iced in Iraq ....risking their lives to make sure that US corporate interests in the region so that our cars can get pumped up and our children can get driven to school for the next 100 years.

Also check this out...
The Associated Press: Nader got GOP help, group charges

A watchdog group said Tuesday it would file a federal complaint
accusing two conservative organizations of illegally helping
Ralph Nader's presidential campaign, possibly with support from
President Bush's reelection campaign.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington planned to
file its complaint today with the Federal Election Commission.
The group said the Oregon Family Council and Citizens for a Sound
Economy violated election laws last week by telephoning people
and urging them to help Nader get on Oregon's ballot in November.

27. I saw that, too.
The Republican pollster. I think it was live on C-Span2. It just broke me up when he said this would backfire on the Democrats because about 12 of Halliburton's employees have lost their lives. I think that's when I turned it off.

16. Talk is cheap, Sen. Leahy
And I've heard this song before. Please go out and DO something to blunt this corrupt administration's power and money grab. I realize the anthrax mailing was scary, but you can either cower in the corner or stand on your feet. I know how what position I'd prefer my corpse to be found in, since I'm going to die anyway.

21. Leahy might be schedued for the next "plane crash"
Although the fact that he isn;t in an easily rigged Battlkeground State will probably save him.

That, and now murdering him now by Wellstoning would be too obvious, even for these Bushevik Nazis.
