Does Michael Moore Make a Mess of Reporters in F/911? |
|
I haven't seen it yet, but I'm hoping he shines a big bright light on the complicity of our sheep media. Please tell me he does this...

1. He makes a few of them look like buffoons |
|
FOX's Cavuto admitting he's biased.
And Katie Couric's "Navy SEALS rock!"

17. Here are some of my favorite media quotes from the movie. |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 04:41 PM by VolcanoJen
He also takes Dan Rather, Katie Couric, Peter Jennings, various Fox reporters, some of the "embeds," and Ted Koppell to task, just to name a few.
Shephard Smith says "The rallying around our president, around our flag and around our troops has clearly begun for the nation."
He shows giddy embeds talking about how "electrifying" their experiences were. Another reporter says "until you're with the troops, you just can't understand the adrenaline rush you get when in battle."
Katie Couric says "I just want you to know, I think Navy Seals ROCK!"
Ted Koppell hails America's "awesome synchronized killing machine."
Cavuto says "Am I slanted and bias? You damn well bet I am!"
Those are a few of the quotes that stood out to me. Moore frames this section by saying that "The one story the media wasn't covering was the personal stories of each soldier who was killed in the war." He then shows the flag-draped coffins, and says something like "Flag-draped coffins and dead soldiers are kind of a downer, especially when you're getting ready for a party on a big boat."
The next scene shows the infamous "Mission Accomplished" flight suit video...

I swore off TV news after watching the film. Haven't watched it since, and never will again. What a bunch of fucking whores.

What a sad state of affairs when a comedy show is more informative and puts things in their proper context better than the so-called "news."

But I had my cable cut back to the most limited service they offer, because I tend to watch WAY too much TV. So I no longer get Comedy Central. When I had the full range of channels, I would sit in an apartment full of thousands of books and flip channels for hours on end. I had to wean myself. I don't watch any new shows, and when my old shows go off the air, I'm done with TV for good.

5. That's why I am anxious to see it |
|
I hope he does shine light into the dark corners of corporate, for-profit media.
I suspect, from posts here and the almost universal panning of the film by main-line media, that there is at least a hint of media implication in the sad state of affairs we find ourselves in. I suspect this because the media cannot embrace F911 without a NYT style "mea culpa".

Why people like Lauer and Hannah Storm are attacking Moore now. He shows them for what they are.

12. Lauer was in the movie |
|
Interviewing some idiot who invented a parachute that allows people to jump out of attacked skyscrapers.
The guy was boasting about how easy it is to use, then we see his assistant struggling to strap it on.
A low point in Lauer's career.

to show. So he is showing them up in that way.
