Why does the Drudge Report look so cheap and amateurish? |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 12:36 PM by Kid_A
I thought this guy got tons of money from right-wing groups to investigate Democratic penises? Or does he think the crappy-looking site makes him seem "underground"?

it's been that wait from the start.
It's a good site for breaking news, to see what's going on.

8. If you're brain dead, probably |
|
Other outlets get news before Drudge does, but only Stepford idiots believe FAUX and Drudge are the only source for news.
Plus Matt does rails of cocaine off of Ann Coulter's stomach.

14. So first you post Fox News Links |
|
and now you defend Drudge?
and then you get uppity if someone suggests you might not be who you say you are?
to quote you: "Sheesh..."
If I don't see you before you go, B'bye...

18. It's a lousy factory for made-up right-wing gossip |
|
...that ALWAYS turns out to be untrue.
Remember when he was peedling the phony rumors about a Kerry affair with an intern?
It was denied by all parties concerned.
He's scum.

4. I hate to say it, but why mess with "success"? |
|
DR is very popular, it's a quick load and LOTS of DUers check it out all the time (including yours truly) - it's amazing how many DU threads are started based on Drudge entries. Drudge is probably independently wealthy just from the web ads.

7. Its really quite simple....... |
|
He is a rank amateur with no talent, no inclination to be accurate, no training, no education, and with that stupid Walter Winchell hat of his....no style. And in all the time since he started his website....he has yet to learn anything or to improve.

He makes $800,000 a year from the website.
And he rarely ever breaks any news, once in a while he does but not $800,000 grand worth.
Millions of repukes visit his site 4 or 5 or more times a day just waiting to see some breaking news, but it rarely happens. Mostly what he does is hot link other news outlets articles. If the Congress made hotlinking illegal it would put Drudge out of business.
Hotlinking is putting a link to a news article on your personal website, usually bypassing the front page of the site. A lot of people want to get hotlinking banned. I doubt it will ever happen though, it would be virtually impossible to enforce it.

11. An aesthetic of manufactured "authenticity" |
|
i.e., mere professionalism is taken to be a sign of "slickness" by some. Therefore, if Drudge's site looks like crap, he must be more interested in the message than in the presentation and thus the message must be true.

He could afford a site as slick as CNN's, but it would make it more obvious what a well-funded right-wing PR machine he actually is. Even when he first came on the scene, I wouldn't be surprised if he broke through with the aid of some Scaife money.
