Terrible Irony: US hostage in Iraq trying to desert when captured? |
|
This article says he was trying to walk home. Rhandi Rhodes just did a bit about it - all the news sources are saying different things. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/special/iraq/2655160

2. IMHO, if someone's trying to say that he was trying to go home... |
|
...it's just another attempt to bash a Muslim-American in the military.
The military has classified him as captured...nothing more and nothing less. Anything else is bullshit.

5. Sounds like a story for an Ann Coulter column |

Another chance for her to attack Muslims as evil and disloyal, even if he is in captivity.

6. I do not know what to make of this story and it's many versions |
|
Would the press reports be materially different if the hostage/abductee was white? Yes. It seems like the military would do everything it could to present a positive perspective out of sensitivity to the situation. But as for the other questions - several stories state the young man was emotionally distraught prior to his capture.

7. Maybe they're trying to set it up |
|
...so that they can say, "See? He was a deserter! That's what happens!" when he gets beheaded. And what a terrible thing that would be. Here he is, a Muslim fighting FOR THE US, probably bearing all sorts of bashing from his battalion (or whatever) and he gets digusted and deserts. And then he's captured. Personally, I will pray for his safety.
