progressives - keep working! |
|
There's a long road ahead, friends. Vote for whom you wish in November, but come January, the task is going to be the same as it is now no matter who wins.
Me, I'll be entrenched in an inner-city school in a "bad!" neighborhood by November. I'm already planning the ways in which I hope to teach the realities of this election to these middle schoolers.
We tend to freak about Kerry, about Gephardt, about Edwards. Vote Nader, vote Cobb, vote Kerry - that's up to you. Just don't let that be the end of it.

sometimes DU amazes me. it bothers me that both dem candidates are pro-war. period. this oughtta be a forum where you can post that thought without being dismissed and flamed.
like thousands/millions of others, i'll vote for them, and i'll even send them money. but like you said, i'll keep working for different choices in the future.

5. Hey you KNOW I love you but there is a very big difference between |
|
voting for a resolution and BEING pro war...this war was going to happen regardless of the IWR vote...the only thing that changed was the circumstances that brought us to war...less element of surprise... I was NOT pleased with either position...but the thing people seem to forget is that the ceremony in the Rose Garden by Gephardt, Bayh and Lieberman COMPLETELY undermined the Biden Lugar initiative.

13. would we be at war if john edwards were president? |
|
that was the basis of my statement. who knows what circumstances we will face in the next four years? he says international support is needed, the bar is 'imminent danger' to our national security, and it was appropriate due to the wmd threat from saddam hussein. i'll take back "pro-war", but he sounds and acts like he has a quick trigger.
not trying to crash the pep rally, really. i support them both, but not without concern about where we are headed in terms of war and peace.
(that's as far as i can run with the big GD dogs!)

What I am happy about is that we are poised to have at least one branch more inclined to listen and respond to our concerns. It is not everything I want but better than what we have and a damn sight better than what a lame duck * presidency would be.
GO Kerry-Edwards!!!

8. I don't mean to sound as if I'm tooting my own horn, but I accepted |

Skinner's challenge and wrote checks for $100 and/or less last Fri. to:
Kerry Jim Jeffords Bart Gordon Democracy for America DCCC DSCC The TN Democratic Party The DNC (local area fundraiser challenge) The Interfaith Alliance People for the American Way Extended my already paid membership to the ACLU for another year
It just gets really old to be slammed for not agreeing with everything that is done by the party and to be labeled a 'left wing nut' or a 'far left fringe' radical nut when it couldn't be further from the truth.
I don't like the fact that for years the right has demonized public education and came up with all sorts of reasons to not adequately fund public education (especially IDEA), but now we have all these billions for bombs and death and destruction! Cheney that!!!
Kids who don't have food or the basics, but we've got the will to pay to destroy and kill and maim.
It gets really frustrating sometimes. I'll vote for the Democratic ticket and work for local candidates, but I'm seriously considering changing the way that I am registered after Nov. 2nd. Rant temporarily over.

Even when I had money, it didn't get spread that far. Good on you.
Much agreed on the whole (temporary) rant.

23. It's not that I have a lot of money. We scrape and do without a lot. |
|
Some things just get pushed to the top of the list, but I am tired of getting kicked in the teeth for making the effort. After looking at the budget cuts in our local school system I am sick and just livid.
We just purchased a used trombone for the band program. Purchased the wood, made the shelves asked for, sanded, stained, finished and installed them along with other "extras" that we pay for and after seeing that the $50 allocated to this band program last year has been eliminated along with other eliminations across the entire school system is just a bit much to take. I'm REALLY pissed!!! Teaching positions eliminated, outdated textbooks still won't be replaced, bus services eliminated or slashed....I'm seething.

22. It's been a very painful recognition. |

There are many of us in that (leaky) boat, and I hope we find each other just like many did after Nov 2000.
It's hard enough, without going it alone.

14. Living Wages, Single Payer HC, Fair Trade over Free Trade.... |
|
...(not that there's such a thing as "free" Trade), stopping the FTAA, Ending the US/UK Occupation of Iraq, Ending the Military and Financial support of Rightwing freak jobs like Hugo Chavez is fighting in Venezuala and a slew of other issues and demands that will meet Kerry once he beats that scum sucking fuckwit Bush.
He'll get my money and my time up until the election. After that it's full-on activism. Left Left Populism to the max.
Clinton taught me a sad lesson, don't go to sleep just because a Dem is in the WH.
