This is how Edwards needs to handle the trial lawyer label
Edited on Tue Jul-06-04 08:58 PM by demdem
Edwards-Dick it's trial lawyers like me who are going to have company's like Halliburton pay for ripping off our tax payer's dollars over in Iraq, overcharging for things like doing laundry, $40 for a case of soda. It is trial lawyers like me who are going to send your buddies from Enron to jail.

1. Seriously. Why are the press acting as if being a trial lawyer is
worse than being an oil man?

Why does the public seem squeamish at the thought of a lawyer as VP but have no qualms about a cabal of oil company execs running the country?

21. I like trial lawyer myself
Having both worked for them and benefited from their work, but they have very bad reputations for reasons I cannot fathom, as they seem to be the only resort that the average person has to deal with either large corporations or the government, but having worked for them I have to say that their image is not good, worse than even criminal defense attorneys who get slammed all the time for defending people who should be in jail. The idea that people are innocent until proven guilty and that everyone deserves afair trial is really a lot of talk among the average person, who tends to dislike tha actual thing in practice. Prosecutors like Kerry tend to do well, as they are perceived as putting away all of the scum who should not have a decent defense, even though Kerry has stated that the system in the U.S. is seriously broken and a lot of innocent peopple get put away as a consequence.

It is going to be a very hard task to dispel long held ideas about trail lawyers no matter what they try to do.

"I can't (missing apostrophe in "can't") understand why you did not use the spell checker feature.(extra period here unnecessary) It is rather funny the amount of wrong spellings on this site, yet they have provided a SPELL CHECKER!"

7. Spell checker does not check for apostrophes..
All my words are spelled correctly, in spite of the extra ..Is it so much to ask when a post starts a thread that a word as elementary as label be spelled correctly??

Have you ever typed so fast that you hit a key faster than you should. It is not an issue of how a word is spelled. I know how to spell label. I guess it is easier to type when you do it with one finger. You have some real nerve.

9. Use your one finger to hit the spell checker afterward..

I mistype as well because of the rapidity, but I especially use the spell checker when starting a thread.. At least you edited it..

13. Punctuation is just as important . The "extra .." you site is called
an ellipsis mark when done correctly. According to Holt, it is three spaced periods used to indicate the omission of a word or words from a quotation.

Total misuse, dude or dudette.

23. Is it so much to ask for people to apostrophe their contractions?
After all, the word "cant" is completely different from the word "can't". How in the heavens am I supposed to understand what you are writing about if you don't place punctuation in their appropriate places? Oh yeah thats right, I forgot about something called context. Thats how I figured out that you meant "can not" and was not implying some sort of chant or platitude. I'm thinking perhaps that apostrophe got sucked up into the infinitely dense black hole that exists behind the event horizon that is your anus? Toodles! :loveya:

15. CNN poll just said 67% consider Edwards being trial lawyer a good thing
not a bad thing at all!!! Of course, Aaron Brown immediately made a snide remark debunking polls as meaningless especially since people vote for Pres, not Veep. No snide remark though about how the trial lawyer attacks could backfire in light of these new poll numbers.

17. they say trial lawyers.....
are the ones sueing the big companys, therefore making their product or service more expensive, so the little people have to pay more in the end(no pun intended). They fail to mention that if they didn't do anything wrong in the first place they wouldn't get sued.

20. Then businesses should stop suing each other
Here is some ammunition to debunk that RW talking point:

• Business cases account for 47% of all punitive damage awards. In contrast, only 4.4% and 2% of punitive damage awards are due to product liability and medical malpractice cases respectively (Rand Institute for Civil Justice, 1996).

• Businesses suing each other over contracts comprised nearly half of all federal court cases filed between 1985 and 1991 (The Wall Street Journal, 12/93).

• Contract and property cases - most involving business - comprise more than 1/3 of all civil cases in state courts; by comparison, only 0.21% of all civil cases were product liability claims (National Center for State Courts, 1995).

24. Even David Brooks said that the trial lawyer charge would be
a non-starter because of the way Edwards handles it. He tells the story of the client who almost died when the drain of a swimming pool sucked her down, etc.
