Farenheit: $45 mil ahead / Spiderman 2: $80 mil behind |
|
Farenheit has already earned $45 million profit on $6 million production and $10 million advertising.
Spiderman 2 cost $210 million to make and $50 million to advertise and, so far, has recovered 180 million.
Will Spidey even catch Farenheit?

1. I think in the long run Spiderman will make more money |
|
So far F/911 has made back 29 million if you deduct 45 from 16. Spiderman will likely gross 400 million + or around what the first one grossed.
So even if Spidey does do 400 it'll make 140 million. Which means F/911 will half to do about 156 million to make 140. It's unlikely that F-911 will make that much.
And we're not even figuring in dvd and rental sales for Spidey which will likely do much more business than F-911 will do.
But no matter how much money F-911 makes, I think Moore's message is getting through.

6. I think it's $45 million profit. |
|
I.e., the deduction was already done (61 - 16) by the poster.

It's interesting to see these figures since the media whores are so happily spinning that Spiderman 2 is beating F9/11 everywhere.

If you see value in movies simply in terms of dollars, which I know fucking hollywood has ever since the time of Oz and their followers ever since...(BIG BUCKS, MUST BE GOOD) oh and not to mention the commercial extravaganza Star Warts, when all hell broke loose, yeah I guess you could compare a commercial piece of technoshit like Pidey II to Farenheit 9/11, if you were inclined to do so.
I'm not.

3. I only heard about F911 on DU... |

This is not sarcasm, but if $10 mil was plopped down like a big bird dropping into advertising, how expensive is advertising?! :wow:

7. I thought that was funny too. |

Of course Spidey will catch up and far surpass F911 in profits (especially considering merchandising, international, dvd, etc.) but it's still an amusing thought. As I posted in another thread, F911 has made the same amount of net profit at this point as the latest Harry Potter movie! That to me is an even bigger surprise since HP is a huge franchise that has been out for 5 weeks on many more screens than F911. In the long run all of these movies will make way more than F911 but it's cool to see how much profit Moore's movie has made so quickly.

F911 got a week long head start, and had documentaries are almost always going to have lower costs to make up than a big action flick heavy on special effects. Not to dis either movie, its just lets not go overboard on the praises. It makes us look worse.
