...on his radio talkshow this evening and I sent this email to the show's writer of the piece, who's link is referenced at the end of my email. It began with the following in the subject line:
Your premise is a false one that...
...CP lawsuits are based on junk science. There are over 106,000 websites that explain in clear language the most likely causes of cerebral palsy are medical negligence or accidental damage to vital areas of an infant's brain either during pregnancy, at the time of delivery, shortly after birth or during the early period of infancy. Science has shown that there has never been any connection between heredity and CP, that the causes are always due to some form of brain damage. To-date there is no cure for CP, but there is a lifetime of pain, suffering and constant care for the CP victim and costly medical expenses and care maintenance for the families of victims. Where litigation by a trial lawyer comes in for the family and victim of CP, is to find actual cause and where the cause can be identified to medical malpractice, to seek proper and justifiable damage settlements for the families and victim of CP.
I suggest that you provide your listeners/readers with the whole story regarding this dreaded illness that affects over 1 million victims in the United States, rather than sensationalizing this issue to make a political statement about a presidential candidate's running mate who you happen to oppose. A small sampling of sites where you can read more about the causes and symptoms of CP are listed below:
http://www.cerebralpalsyfyi.com/cerebral_palsy_causes.htmlhttp://www.cerebral-palsy-solicitor.co.uk/cerebral_palsy_causes.htmlhttp://www.emedicinehealth.com/articles/32062-2.asphttp://www.cerebral-palsy-solicitor.co.uk/cerebral_palsy_causes.htmlhttp://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/disorders/cerebral_palsy.htmYou may also wish to contact Jerry Lewis/March of Dimes, who can provide a wealth of information about CP and other neurological afflictions for the latest research data on the subject. Please don't traumatize families who have to live with the effects of having a loved one with CP just for the purpose of providing talkshow material for your radio show host.
Respectfully yours,
