1. Kerry was already using a version of that theme

before announcing Edwards as his vp. it was another indication that he was going to pick edwards. Kerry had hired Edwards speech writer. from what i know Kerry had decided on Edwards long time ago as vp although he never made a direct offer to edwards to accept until just yesterday.

the speeches edwards was giving while campaigning for kerry was similar to the speeches kerry was giving around the same time.

and yes, it will help in the south. i believe it is what has partly helped kerry to not be too far behind the polls in places like north carolina and virginia, and even ahead in west virginia and arkansas. now with Edwards on the ticket it will help even more.
