Newsview: Bush Sharpening Attack Lines

WASHINGTON (AP) - Slumping in the polls four months before the election, President Bush is sharpening his political attack lines. John Kerry is a flip-flopping liberal in the Bush playbook while his new Democratic running mate, John Edwards, is a trial lawyer with little experience in politics and foreign policy.

Bush's strategy will be to try to convince voters that Kerry and Edwards are "out of the mainstream of America when it comes to the war on terror, the economy and values," said Karl Rove, Bush's chief political adviser. He said Edwards, a North Carolina senator, is Kerry's "ideological soul mate."

On major issues, there are clear markers separating the Republican and Democratic presidential tickets.

Kerry and Edwards both supported the congressional resolution authorizing Bush to go to war in Iraq and both voted against the administration's $87 billion request for Iraq and Afghanistan. Both advocate rolling back Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans but support other tax cuts for middle- and low-income people. Unlike Bush, they both support abortion rights and have indicated they would only nominate Supreme Court justices who share that view.

1. Oh, right!
Bush is a great one to talk about experience in politics and foreign policy. That's gonna backfire big time!

5. Hey that's a good point.
Hopefully Kerry and Edwards will throw that in his face every time they say bush is Mr. Foreign Policy. I know I will. hahahahaha.

3. Just remember: Bush* lost in 2000! Rove sucks at campaigns!
I am sick and tired of "news" stories about Bush* campaign scare tactics.

As if his last campaign was successful!

What a crock!

4. Soul Mates?
So Rove, specificly said "Soul Mates"? Wasn't that the very same comment that was dropped earlier today on CNN? Not that I am surprised, you know Rove had talking points drawn up for every VP choice from Edwards to Clinton. He probably even had docs ready for the unliklies like Mr. Joementum himself.

7. It sounds like
people think Edwards is a good man and a decent person and I have a feeling that the more ugly the republicans are in this election, the more it will backfire. The last four years have been full of protests, lies, wars, unemployment lines, the visions of the world trade center disaster, struggle to find out what happened surrounding 911, etc. I think people are tired of it, tired of being scared and will soon grow weary of even more ugliness. I think they will find Kerry and Edwards to be a breath of fresh air and hope. MHO.
