John McCain: "I was never offered a VP slot"
I'm sure this will be printed soon enough, but this is what McCain said on ABC news on the radio this morning when asked if Kerry had ever offered him the position of VP.

TAKE THAT YOU LYING BASTARDS!

Now I wonder how long the smirk/snarly website will have that bullshit about Edwards being second choice..

5. CNN bows to the White House talking points, not McCain
In December, they'll run an hour long program questioning whether they "went too far" in their zeal to please the White House.

13. Wow. It's almost like he planned to make Bush look stupid(er)
Setting the Bush camp up with their commercial strategy and then yanking the basis out from under their campaign.

I mean, there's no reason that McCain (and his illegitimate black daughter) ought to loathe the Bushies and conspire for their imminent demise--is there?

18. The Associated Press distributes lies and Fox News prints them:
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 02:55 PM by Zorra
Here is a blatant example of contradictory propaganda from AP and Fox News, and the author of this article should be outed as a liar, AP has become a journalistic joke, and Murdoch's Fox News is a propaganda rag.

McCain to Kerry: No Thanks on VP Slot

WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. John McCain (search) has personally rejected John Kerry's (search) overtures to join the Democratic presidential ticket and forge a bipartisan alliance against President Bush, The Associated Press has learned.

Kerry has asked McCain as recently as late last month to consider becoming his running mate, but the Arizona senator said he's not interested, said a Democratic official who spoke on condition of anonymity because Kerry has insisted that his deliberations be kept private. A second official familiar with the conversations confirmed the account, and said the Arizona senator made it clear he won't change his mind.

Both officials said Kerry stopped short of offering McCain the job, sparing himself an outright rejection that would make his eventual running mate look like a second choice.

"Senator McCain categorically states that he has not been offered the vice presidency by any one," said McCain's chief of staff, Mark Salter, who would not confirm the officials' account.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,122498,00.html

Whoever wrote this article is a lying propagandist. He says that Kerry offered McCain the VP slot, and then he says that Kerry did not offer McCain the VP slot. Then he goes on to say that McCain rejected offers by Kerry for the VP slot, and then writes that McCain said that he was not offered the VP slot by anyone.

There is no gray area here. This article is a propagandistic piece of shit.

Who writes this stuff? Someone that no respectable publication could possibly take seriously. Any publication that printed this article should submit a public apology for printing it. Otherwise, they can not be taken seriously as a publication that truthfully informs the public.

Disgusting!

No, it was just a LEADING question, and that deserves to be challenged

23. I get the impression that
Just like all the other possibilities for the ticket, Kerry hinted at the idea, but never officially asked him "do you want the job" as the Repukes are trying to imply.

Point being if the method Kerry used to ask McCain to be his VP is the one that the Reps are using to justify the statement that he asked McCain officially to be the VP, then he also "officially" asked Edwards, Gephart, ect.

27. Wasn't Gephardt named as Kerry's VP?
That is what the press said all weekend and the NYPost even had that the headline, so if the press says it, it was gospel.

Just as Kerry talked with Gephardt this weekend, and Gephardt did not receive the nomination, I suppose you could say the same for McCain. The fact that they ever had meetings prior to the VP selection does not mean they talked about the VP post. Geezeeeeeee don't you think they had other things to talk about?

28. No, they were meeting
but I can guarantee you, McCain was never offered the VP slot. He's a lifelong loyal member of the Republican party, and there is no way Kerry would even consider asking him to turn his coat. McCain wouldn't do it, Kerry wouldn't ask it, and no one would want the deciding vote in a Senatorial tie to belong to a member of the opposing party.

Kerry and McCain are cordial colleagues. They have a lot in common, and respect one another personally and professionally. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if McCain WAS offered an influential position within the Kerry administration, but NOT NOT NOT the VP slot. That's absurd.

30. Take control ...
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 04:07 PM by Trajan
and remove the 'meme' noose from around your own neck: dont ever let THEM control the debate ... REFUTE their lies, then knock them off their feet with proof of the contrary ...

For instance: They say that McCain was Kerry's first choice .. and edwards his second ....

yet: McCain said this morning on ABC news radio that Kerry NEVER offered him the slot ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x1940103 ) ... AND there are quotes FROM McCain in 2000 where HE turned down the VP slot from Bush in the 2000 election ...

So clearly the Bush team, in their present push to sully Kerry are lying on BOTH counts ...

DESTROY their memes with FACTS ....
