1. I don't think so
It made me feel sick personally. To each his own. I don't think that that line is going to do anything for us, and I could see it being mocked.

11. It's Called Judo
Using your opponents words against them....

The PUKES started it by calling Edwards the Breck Girl....

19. Wasn't Kerry called helmet head too?
He was also called this on DU. I think joking about this is appropriate. It takes the wind out of the sails of the detractors, because this is what the intention of these remarks are, to distract us from what these candidates are campaigning about.

23. Exactly.
That's exactly the way it came across to me when I saw it. A willingness to laugh at himself and his image will help Kerry immensely.

12. A Sense Of Humor is ALWAYS A Good Thing!
This makes Kerry seem more warm and human...It's a great line, it means he can take some ribbing...

22. I think it just highlights the repuke fixation with Dem hair
I thought it was funny as well as warranted...

The Clinton airport/haircut "scandal" in the 90's (bullshit of course)

The intrigue over Kerry's haircut price last year

Calling Edwards "The Breck Girl"

If the repukes try to use this as a slam... it will just further illustarte the fact that they have nothing concrete to point to and bitch about so they have to resort to the ever predictable "hair envy" whining.

26. Who cares what the repukes say?
They're going to do the personal attacks regardless of what our side says. I thought it was brilliant. That was the biggest fault I had against Gore....he never stood up to those idiots and they degraded and destroyed him with their scathing personal attacks. It's good we have a team who will stand up to them.....it's about damn time!!!

30. That's what I meant!
I thought Kerry's quip was pretty funny!

How stupid can the repukes look when they have to resort to calling Edwards "The Breck girl" LOL

I mean WTF are these people, 12?

What next?

Will bush leave a whoopie cushion out for Kerry to sit on during the debates?

37. I know what you mean
The GOPerverts are such an evil, immature bunch. Can you believe how they are whining and crying about Kerry going after Edwards in the primaries and saying he "flipped flopped"...he was against him now he is for him,but how soon those idiots forget what they did to McCain in the primaries and now they are using him in their ads! They are the masters of hypocracy. :puke:

I was just about to come and post that very subject title.
This is EXACTLY the way, IMHO, to handle all of these ridiculous little criticisms that are flung their way...with a sense of humor and willingness to laugh at them and themselves. Good for Kerry.

14. I find it funny BUT. . .
While I think it's amusing, especially since so many political caricatures of Kerry feature little more than his hair and his jaw. . . it's not going to play well in the "folksy" red states that he has to worry about winning. We're all thinking it without wanting to say the words, so I will. It sounds too rich, too metropolitan, and too shallow to go over well in the stix.

24. Okay, fine.
Most of us are thinking it. Some of us? Those of us who were routinely referred to as "them artsy faggot types" by the locals where we went to college. No, not everyone who lives in a rural environment is a hick of some kind. I met plenty of interesting, intelligent people. I also met people with tatoos of the Confederate flag on their arm with the words "Proud Redneck" written directly underneath. They weren't the ONLY people living there, but they WERE there, and trust me, they voted. ;) If we can't come to terms with the basic truth that individually, people can be reactonary pricks, I don't know where we intend to go.

There are alot of people in the Southern states who are not "the elite".

28. I couldn't agree more.
However, the careful administration of political and social marketing has convinced many people that the Repubican party is the party of "values", and it often garners the votes of the more conservative states. Generally (and notice that I said generally) the poor-er states. The Republicans have marketed themselves to a nation that is socially conservative but politically liberal by emphasizing the former and discarding the latter.

Democrats have BEEN marketed to the nation as being unethical, immoral elitists, regardless of who their policies are actually benefiting. It's not fair or truthful, but if you've come to politics looking for fairness and truth, you're in for a long string of disappointments.

32. I had this exact discussion with a friend
over the holiday weekend. I can remember a time when the Democratic party was the "good guy" and when Southern states voted Democratic.

Yes, I am old :-).

It is very sad to see what has happened to the marketing. I agree.

When Kerry makes the joke themselves, it loses all it's bite. It's a genius move.

17. Of COURSE the Mighty Wurlitzer will try to spin it
"John Kerry thinks that having big hair is a reason to vote for him! He must be an insane serial liar like Al Gore!"

Problem is, nobody but those already hopelessly addicted to the Kool-Aid will fall for this. People LIKE self-deprecating humor, and they NEED candidates who can show that side of themselves along with the "MUST COMBAT TERROR THREAT" side. The chimp misadministration has been all fear, all the time... the ONLY time that sick monkey ever cracks a joke is at the expense of someone who he's treating like the hired negro help. bush* can only do put-down humor. Kerry and Edwards will remind America what a true sense of humor is about, and they will temper their serious message with some much-needed levity and perspective.

This is John Kerry being himself. Perhaps if Gore's handlers had let Al be himself a bit more on the campaign trail rather than trying to figure out how every gesture would poll with the soccer moms, he would have won the stunningly decisive victory he deserved (and which, BTW, we MUST HAVE this time around if we hope to oust these rat bastards).

25. Americans like photogenic, healthy, good-looking people.
The fact that these 2 fit that bill far better than Cheney/Bush will work well for them.

If people vote shallow, let's give them two outwardly appealing candidates. For voters who vote smart, it's all there too. It's going to be fun watching these two on the stump this summer.

And lighten up on the hair commment. Geez.

"We've got better hair." - Kerry
