Bush = 6 years as Governor//Edwards = 6 years as US Senator
I'm not sure how they can claim Edwards doesn't have enough political experience to be President. Prior to being selected by the Supreme Court, the totality of George W. Bush's political experience was as Texas governor for the period of 6 years. Total. That's it. Noi other political experience. Nada. Zilch. He never served in any other political office. Oh, sure, he ran. Yes, he "volunteered" or had a sinecure in several campaigns. But his totaql time served in office was six years. SIX YEARS. Bush was sworn in in January 1995, and ceded the governorship in January 2001. SIX YEARS.

Now, Edwards ran and was elected senator in 1998. He was sworn in in January 1999, and will be sworn in as Vice President in January 2005. Is my math wrong here? Is that not six years in public office, just like Bush?!? I don't quite understand how they can even offer this bizarre attack with a straight face. One need not even mention that while Edwards was working hard for families, Bush was avoiding his own family while off on god-knows-what-kinda drinking binge. One need not even get into that. Bush: SIX YEARS. Edwards: SIX YEARS. Either they are saying that Bush was not fit to serve in 2001 (which we of course all know), or they must admit that Edwards is fit to serve now. No other option makes sense. SIX YEARS.

2. I have heard TX governor is really a hollow title. That they don't really
have much power. Anyone in the know that can confirm or deny that?

8. As governor of Texas, Bush sign 152 death warrants...
What better background could he have for undertaking the foreign policy we are now engaged in?

4. A better measuring stick would be:
Bush, I.Q. of 80
Edwards I.Q. of 140.

Note: I.Q. figures are estimated by me. If anyone has the real figures feel free to post.

5. Edwards has had 6 years in a NATIONAL office
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 01:19 PM by Lex
as US Senator and has served on the Senate Intelligence Committee and Bill Clinton said that was major-league in terms of knowing about security issues and foreign relations, etc.

Plus Edwards has been successful, and I stress 'successful,' in his chosen field before becoming a politician.

Bush couldn't even strike oil in a Texas prarie with the Bin Ladens backing him.

9. 6 years as governor of Texas isn't that much
Shrub backers will tell you that 6 years in an executive position is more meaningful than that in a legislative one, but not in this case.

The Texas constitution dictates a plural executive, which means that the governor has to share power with a lot of other people in the executive branch. So the office is a lot weaker than in other states.

Also, the Texas Legislature only meets once every two years, so the time spent dealing with them is less than in other states.

Bush spent most of his time as governor of Texas sending people to the lethal injection table and hooking up his cronies with sweetheart deals.

13. Best line I heard on Crossfire today -
Bush's only foreign policy experience before the White House was - watching the Texas Rangers play the Toronto Blue Jays.

Compare that to Edward's time in the Senate and the Intelligence Committee.
