1. Clarke is so smart and so composed that I certainly hope he will be
appointed to some cabinet position after Kerry/Edwards wins.

3. I foresee Sec of State or Ambassador to the UN.
His talents WILL be utilized and no doubt they all are well aware that it will take ALL their talents and skills to clean up the mess from BushInc.

8. The Kerry Cabinet (as I see it)
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 06:21 PM by 2004 Victory
The following line-up would be a DREAM TEAM:

Richard Holbrooke at State
Wes Clark at the UN
Howard Dean at Heath & Human Services
Bob Graham at Defense
Dick Gephart at Labor
Tom Vilsack at Agriculture
Rand Beers as National Security Advisor
Carol Mosley-Braun at Housing & Urban Development
Special Envoys: Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter

I'm stuck on Attorney-General .... Hillary?

Haven't found a spot for Dennis Kucinich. Any ideas for Dennis?

20. I'll carry the water: Clark must be out of active duty 10 years to be SOD
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 07:06 PM by hlthe2b
BY law:
(the restriction only applies to Secretary of Defense)

http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/10/113.html

Sec. 113. - Secretary of Defense
(a)
There is a Secretary of Defense, who is the head of the Department of Defense, appointed from civilian life by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate. A person may not be appointed as Secretary of Defense within 10 years after relief from active duty as a commissioned officer of a regular component of an armed force.

Clark served on active duty 1966-2000, thus ineligible for six more years.

On edit, many here aren't aware of this requirement, since it is probably not something that those outside the miitary or absolute political junkies (and DU regulars) would necessarily know. You might think some of us are getting a little cranky about explaining. Please pardon us. It is just that it comes up about 20 (and now about 40 times) each day, thus the apparent inpatience. I know that I wish that I had created a macro with the info I could just hit a button to post each time. LOL!

there are many in the pentagon who don't want him in charge.

7. Why not National Security Adviser?
After Condi's piss-poor job, we'll need a real professional to clean up her mess, and I think he's the man to do it.

11. Rand Beers is Kerry's National Security Advisor for the campaign ..
and he'll move over to that position at the White House. Beers was a member of the National Security Council through several administrations and resigned under Bush, calling him incompetent and dangerous for invading Iraq.

of whether he holds some sort of office in Washington or not. His PAC is an excellent platform for undertaking activist efforts.

15. Agree on not taking Senators from the Senate
I do think Clark should have an important position

And I do think there should be diversity. There should definitely be a Hispanic and an African-American in important positions as well as a woman
