3. It's not from 1984 at all
Aaron Magruder was about eight years old in 1984.

Maybe ten.

It's retro-irony. Funny in itself if you realize that it's a put-on. It's also funny if you actually ARE put on ... Laugh-In used to do that, too, back around 1966-1972.

10. I thought he was a bit young
to have a 20 year old cartoon. Boondocks is only 6-7 years old isn't it? and Aaron M is only 30ish.

It would have been neat if true though.

Meet Aaron McGruder

A few years ago, Aaron McGruder, a young college student dissatisfied with both college and the comic-book world, decided to create a comic strip inspired by his love of hip-hop culture that reflected the true racial diversity and complexity of the world in which he lived.

The result was "The Boondocks," the story of a group of African-American city kids adjusting to life in white suburbia. After an initial debut on the Internet, "The Boondocks" made its print debut in 1997 in The Diamondback, the independent student newspaper of the University of Maryland. It received rave reviews and quickly drew national attention. After Aaron "escaped" from the University of Maryland with a degree in African-American studies, The Source, one of the country's largest urban music magazines, began publishing the strip.

Through his work, Aaron seeks to provoke thought, help improve the state of racial discourse and expand the types of humor found on comics pages.

Aaron resides in Los Angeles, where - when he isn't meeting the demanding deadlines of a daily comic strip - he's working on television projects and a host of other interesting ideas for "The Boondocks." He's a near-fanatical "Star Wars" fan and a hip-hop enthusiast of the greatest magnitude.

Oops.. sorry had no idea it was a joke. I apologize to Mr or Mrs Old HAT who seems to think that everyone in the nation knows what Boondocks is and likes to call people stupid because they got tricked. Fool me once.. uh.. shame.. Won't get fooled again.
I have never seen it before and the site where I got it has no comments on it whatsoever so I took it as truth. Um, in case you haven't noticed today quite a few investigations against the Shrubs administration have fallen through. No matter what happens this admin is not going to get busted, which means he needs to be voted out and crapping on people who are on the same side as you makes you a much bigger fool than me. I'll be adding you and your loser remarks to my ignore list. Jerk.

Insider: Thanks you for the info on Aaron McGruder, this is the first I've seen his work, now I guess I have to dig up the "real" ones. Especially since he's an avid Star Wars fan like myself

12. BUT, if you go back through old Doonesbury and Bloom County
cartoons, they are every bit as appropriate for today. Just swap Ray-gun's name for *.

17. Not just cartoons but music too
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 08:43 PM by walldude
I've been listening to Queensryche and Roger Waters and a few other bands from that era with a political bent and it's freaky how relevant they are today...
I usually don't take things too personally but claiming I have a "lack of intelligence" was uncalled for.. Especially considering I hang out here, with the rest of you wild-eyes ;) Maybe I'm just extra pissed because the admin is getting away with the medicare scam and Ashcroft managed to get Seibel silenced today. Not a good day for our side :(

18. Wouldn't it be cool
for boondocks to to a 'vintage' 70's strip using Doonesbury's dialog and artwork depicting Kerry?
same words
same situation
same Kerry
but with the boondocks characters.

more confusion and more laughter!
