What is the deal with the latest Niger Uranium
claims coming out of the UK? I keep seeing the conservatives jumping all over this, but I thought this was shot down long ago? Please help me shut my friends up.

1. They just can't let it go. They hang on to every little thing, even
if it has been shown not to be true.

Someone provided badly forged documents and the FBI or CIA failed to notice it.

Another proof that Bush supporters are just stupid morons. Instead of checking facts, they'll believe whatever is posted on Freerepublic.

4. Thanks...
and thanks for the other information, but they are also all over a story about the US transferring 2 tons of Uranium out of Iraq in 2003, I believe.

5. Do you mean this story:

Iraq Confirms U.S. Has Removed Nuclear Material

"U.S. and U.N. officials said Wednesday Washington had transported 1.8 tons of enriched uranium out of Iraq for safekeeping more than a year after looters stole it from a U.N.-sealed facility left unguarded by U.S. troops.
<snip>
The Tuwaitha nuclear complex was dismantled in the early 1990s after the first Gulf War (news - web sites).

But tons of nuclear materials remained there under the seal of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency, until last year's U.S.-led invasion of Iraq when it was left unguarded and looted by Iraqi civilians."
<snip>

As you can see, the uranium has been secured and sealed by the UN, which means it was NOT in the hands of Saddam. However, the UN was forced to leave when the US invaded Iraq which left the facility unguarded.

The difference between DU and those conservative message boards is that we check the facts and post links to articles. I personally check all the information posted here before I believe it.

6. I don't mean to be ignorant, but
I have one more question. When was the last time Saddam had this in his possession and would you also say that this has nothing to do with the Niger Uranium claims? Thanks for the help, btw.

7. Please click the links and read the articles. You apparently
have not done that.

This is an absolute non-issue blown up by uneducated people who listen to too much Limbaugh, or by people who intentionally spread lies to have Bush re-elected.

I really don't know why it is so hard for them to do their research and fact checking.

This is too frivolous to waste my time. Sorry.

3. Take A Look At UK History
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 01:46 PM by atreides1
The British nobility have always done whatever was required to keep the government from looking foolish.
It's just the way they do things, you know "Stiff Upper Lip" and admission that the PM was wrong upsets the balance.

And besides the government of Niger has already said it was a lie, but most conservatives would rather beleive a white Brit, and not
a black African.

Another of Bush's values that he shares with his base.

8. a new report is coming out 7/14
there's a story in the Financial Times and conservatives are jerking off over it.

supposedly the UK can now prove that the Niger claim was true and not forged. They are releasing such evidence in a report on 7/14.

We'll see.

They are all over that story. And, Tandot, I read the links and that is what brought me to my question. Sorry, to bother you.

10. I believe it when I see it. There is so much misinformation going around
right now. I haven't seen anything about that. And I don't believe anything that is posted on freerepublic or similar sites.

Too many claims already have been discredited. These Niger documents have been shown to be forged documents. Even the White House had to admit that.

As you said: "We'll see"
