F 9/11 could help the education and health care of poor children!
from:

-snip-

Under the recent agreement Walt Disney reluctantly signed with the Weinstein brothers, Walt Disney will secure 60 percent of the net profits. The Weinstein brothers, who are the co-chairs of Miramax and the distributors of the Michael Moore film, will receive the other 40 percent of the net profits. Based on the first two weeks of gross revenue of over $60 million from Fahrenheit 9/11, the net profits to Disney and the Weinstein brothers could exceed $100 million.

Under Disney's agreement with Miramax, Walt Disney will donate its 60 percent net profit share, which is likely to be a minimum of $40 million and possibly $80 million, to charitable causes.

----

This is great news. How does this fit into the 'Michael Moore doesn't love America' line?

By the way, they are urging action with this post. They urge us to write Michael Eisner to make sure some of the money goes to help poor children in California.

3. Good idea on the military families
It would be great to see F9/11 help them out in a financial way.

2. Poor children exist in every state, not just California.
however, I'll be thrilled as long as those charitable organizationa aren't limited to rightist PACs and wingnut churches.

4. Check out nonprofits' finances at guidestar.org
Nonprofit organizations must file Form 990 with the IRS periodically to keep their tax exemptions. Thousands of the filled-out forms are online at http://www.guidestar.org , a resource for potential donors. These tax forms and summaries include the good, bad, and the ugly of self-styled nonpolitical charities.

For an example of the latter, Grover Norquist's "Americans for Tax Reform Foundation" has a 21-page PDF online of its 2002 Form 990 and some other tax forms. Disney could get a big tax write-off for donating to them and helping to put Ronald Reagan on the $10 bill, investigate Federal job applicants for possible liberal tendencies, and, of course, lobby for yet more shifting of the tax burden from the wealthy to the rest of us.
