2. How is that all the REPUGS (remember Rumsfeld at the Senate
hearing?) accept RESPONSIBILITY but not guilt?
How come it works for them but not for regular DEM folk?

5. NPR Acquited Him Earlier, Too
On All Things Considered, I believe.

I'm not one of the people who normally considers NPR to be right-wing, but wow. They cast the whole thing as Jeffrey Skilling's fault and Ken Lay was innocent, see. The big bad prosecutor is just trying to score political points.

That was my take on their report, at least.

straight from Bush. The buck stops somewhere else.

7. Uh, they put quotation marks around his words. MSNBC is not
declaring Lay not guilty, they are repeating his own plea to the court. Geez, don't shoot the messenger, that's a shrub tactic.

8. Er, I write advertising copy for a living. That's a misleading headline.
If you're surfing through the Web and see "Not Guilty," quotation marks or no, you're going to be left with the impression that Lay is--or has been found--not guilty.

9. This is not advertising copy, it is a common headline when
someone is indicted. One can only be left with the impression that Lay has been found not guilty if one consciously avoids reading the two lines right below the quote.

19. You mean people actually read subheads???
Boy, you could've fooled me! I'm just saying that they could've said something like: Lay: "Not Guilty" or Lay Pleads Not Guilty. I thought the cardinal rule of written journalism was clarity.

18. Exactly. So how come the others, who ruined millions of lives, besides
stealing money (millions) get away with a slap on the hand, mistrial, or innocent verdicts?

15. When you write 10-point headline quotes, you're making a point
Almost everyone pleads 'not guilty', so why the big letters? Are they implying he's being railroaded? I'll answer that myself. YES!

16. I head some twit on Fox argue that America "doesn't care" about Lay
she insisted to Cavuto that "America" cares more about seeing Martha Stewart arrested, and didn't even know who Ken Lay was.

Well, I did - and I got the electric bills to prove it.

21. ABC all ready planted the seed with "It will be tough to convict him"
Words to that effect. Still none of the direct suckling by W at the Lay teet either.

ABC LAYed out how hard it will be to convict him while still reporting that it will be hard to find a nice jury in Houston. Many angles here-moving the trial and OJ-esque astonishment at the guilty verdict.
