Hitchens calls Lila Lipscomb "Nauseating"
This is from the Reliable Sources transcript, where they were 'objectively' discussing F-9/11. I'd say that if the standard for the Bush* administration was as high as it is for Michael Moore then there would have been no need for Moore to even make the movie.

PRESS: I don't think they were cheerleaders for war, but I do think, as I said earlier, they swallowed the administration's line and reprinted it without doing the homework that they should have done. But the related issue on this, I think one of the strengths of the movie is that Moore shows some video that I have never seen before. I think most Americans haven't. That seven minutes of President Bush sitting there while the teacher continues to read "My Pet Goat." I mean, did he want to -- what was he waiting for? Did he want to see how it ended?

I mean, America was under attack. And if I may just finish, quickly, that this footage of Lila Lipscomb, the woman who lost her son, which is certainly the most powerful part of the movie.

HITCHENS: Nauseating.

10. I don't care for Bill Press' suggestion that Moore is the left's Limbaugh.
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 06:36 PM by Cat Atomic
Rush Limbaugh spreads right wing talking points and completely fabricated bullshit. Michael Moore uses *facts* to make an argument.

One is a respectable, if passionate, man with a point of view. The other is just another loudmouthed whore following orders from the RNC.

13. I always felt Press was a bit of a lightweight . .
. . especially after watching him on Crossfire. He'd occasionally score a point here and there, but almost any DU'er who spends 30 minutes or more a day here would be better informed.

11. Hitchens is primarily a contrarian, and he can't deal with being wrong
I don't doubt that Hitchens still believes in some basic Liberal principles, but he completely fell for the fairy tale of an easily-created liberal democracy in Iraq. He simply refuses to see why many of us thought it would be so incredibly difficult for a post-war Iraq to become a liberal democracy.

I think many Conservatives have and will admit this long before Hitchens ever does, if he ever will. I don't think it's in his contrarian nature.

17. This is the man who would send Mother Theresa to Hell
so it's fair to say he's got a surly side.

Though, he did do a hate dance on St. Ronald of Reagan during his week of canonization, so I can appreciate that.

22. Why all of a sudden does his word hold so much weight?
And where are the people to refute what he has to say? Bill Press, God love him, but he was pitiful in trying to argue for the other side.

25. Amen to that
For the life of I can't figure that shit out. Hitchens and other media "personalities" get run around the center media circus ring like they are fucking thoroughbred experts on something.

They are courtiers, as in fucking powdered wig tory courtier class assholes, adept and willing to play suck-toes with their courtier class higher ups. It is a false reality. Means shit.

28. Hitchens is the token "Liberal who disagrees with the other 'loony' libs"
He's trotted out so often for much the same reason that Zell Miller is (not that Zell is anything approaching Liberal, but he is used against Democrats in an anaolgous manner).

Ever see many Conservatives in the mainstream media who criticize the Iraq War (sure there may be a few paleocons like Buchanan, but do they appear with the frequency of their opposite?)? Perhaps I don't pay enough attention to the mainstream media anymore, but I don't see it.

I wondered if Hitchens was actually responding to the "this is staged" woman. He's a shit, but not a stupid shit, so I'm surprised to read this in a transcript.

I swear, he gets more pathetic by the day. Probably has no liver left and the toxins in his circulation are making hamburger out of his brain. I used to think he was just trying to be a bad boy for his own amusement, but now I'm sure he is curdling from the inside out.

For the combination of outrage, fear, loathing, and a sense of dread I felt while watching the movie. Maybe "Hitchens" might be that word.

31. Like Maureen Dowd but worse
the man has been rotted by cynicism. Any displays of emotion will always be treated as manipulative ploys. The only thing that would generate outrage in this sad, sad shell of a man would the re-enactment of Prohibition.

33. I wonder if Hitchens' wingnut buddies know that he recently said
"Lenin was a great man," called himself a Trotskyite, and was sympathetic to Stalin. (read Martin Amis' Koba the Dread)

Of course, we all know hitchie's just a self promoting, authoritaraphiliac whore embarking on the obligatory middle aged english "intellectual's" going down the right-wing long slide.

But what would Scarlborogh fans say if the knew he was...pssst...a pinko!
